Heat gunned my stock flares. What do you think?
So with having a 15 year old jeep, this seems to be one of the main "aging" side effects. I started to check my options on how to refurbish my stock flares. I read from doing everything from bumper black, armor all, wd40, 303, and then I came across a thread of heat gunning. So pretty much all I did was clean my flares with rubbing alcohol. Got as much tire shine from the over spray off of the fires off. Then I bought a heat gun at harbor freight. Half off today! Spent a whopping 10 dollars. I allowed the gun to warm up, and "painted" the flares with the gun. The flares begin to turn a glossy black as they heat up. After I finished heating them they tended to have heat stripes from the heating and cooling. So I re-cleaned them with rubbing alcohol and then used a carnauba wax that I got from the local flea market. I think they came out exceptionally well. Hope this might help someone else.

Take a fine grit sandpaper to the flairs, bumper caps, and the rest of the plastic (handles, mirrors, ect) and spray them with black krylon fusion. It holds really, really well to plastic and does well in the sun and goes a long way for appearance. Works really well for interior trim, dash panels, ect.
I painted the plastic accents on the interior of my Dakota with it as well. Did them in white and it went a long way for breaking up the monotony of the interior. It even works really well on pleather seats, headrests, ect.

Use Ultima Tire and Trim Gaurd to protect it from fading. It makes them look like new and lasts a couple months. It's like a sealer for plastics. It works amazingly well and it's actually good for the plastic.

How have they held up in past couple months? No cracking or peeling?

They have held up just fine, through 102 degree Houston Texas heat, a minor hail storm, lots of rain and plenty of drive time. No cracks, peels or issues. We used bedliner. The stuff is so cheap, if they do crack or peel its easy enough to reapply but that hasn't happened to us.
