Help me find this rattle!
Hi guys! Last week I installed a 2 inch shackle and spacer lift with all new shocks. I have since noticed an intermittent noise in the rear going over bumps. It sounds like loose sheet metal, or something hitting sheet metal. I have been under the rear multiple times and can't find anything loose. The shackles are greased, everything is tight, and I don't know what else to check. Any ideas?

I hear a noise just about everyday. Sounds like someone tied some fender washers to something underneath and every time I go over a bump it sounds like the are bouncing around. It's done this since I got it 4 years ago. Before and after I put on my 3" RC lift. I haven't been able to find what is doing this. Not sure if its the same sound but I am curious too.

Did a little more investigating today. Found the pass side parking brake cable routed over the muffler. The heat shield of the cable was worn off, so the outer metal sleeve of the cable was in contact with the muffler. I'm gonna take it for a ride in a bit to see if the noise is gone, but I think this might have been the culprit!

I had that noise. It was just washers on my sway bar mounts I never got around to removing. Jeeps make weird noises, most cannot be explained. You are now entering the twilight zone

Funny thread. I have everything tight and quiet on the outside but the interior trim pieces around the roof and pillars sure do creak.

It's been tough to pinpoint what's making that noise but I'm gonna try and investigate more in a few days.

I bought it with no rear hatch interior panel, then put one on using screws, as most of the factory clips were broken. Gonna take that off this weekend to see if it's the cause. I swear it sounds like slapping sheet metal, but I can't find a thing!

Ugh, possible new cause! The parking brake cable going into the drivers rear drum is loose, and I seem to remember the drum being loose the last time I took that wheel off. Gonna investigate this weekend, think maybe the shoes are loose inside and slapping the drum, could explain the noise.

solution might be simple...
This may sound too simple but have you checked the rear seat latches? I was driving mine for a couple of days with out the rear seat firmly set in the latches and it made some pretty noisy rattling sounds, I did like you checked all around and couldn't find anything. When reaching for my wife's sweatshirt i realized that the seat was not firmly locked back, checked and locked both of them and bingo - no more rattles... I hope it's this simple for you too.

Man, rattles are tough,do you offroad? in my previously owned jk I was battling a rattle for along time before finally finding a small rock lodged between my trani crossmember and my exhaust cross pipe......my advice, get a buddy to ride in your cargo area while going down the road to see if he can identify it from inside if its squeaking at Idle obviously look around underneath and diagnose if its only while going over bumps...get the same buddy to shake jeep up and down while your under there looking for cause, good luck brotha
