Here's why you don't let your cousin take your XJ to go camping and drinking.

yeah I might try to straighten out the roof. if not the n I know a fab guy and we'll just cut it off put in a gnarly rollcage and wheel it like crazy. Of course i'd be tying the rollcage into the unibody since it'll be a trail vehicle I might just get full widths with locking hubs up front and weld up the diffs. Cheap and easy will be my route with that jeep. Leave the nice stuff for the white one.

Good idea. Maybe I'll go test drive it after work and see if its as good as it looks. I've already checked the carfax on it and it has never been reported wrecked and had to previous owners. One was a corporation and one was a lease.

wow that sucks, glad everybody seems alright.
but think of it this way, now you can have a dedicated bad *** trail rig, and a pretty sweet looking replacement. but thats just me, i like to be optimistic about stuff.
and as far as the new jeep, it looks post 1996 so it should have the C8.25 29 spline

So I'm goin to check out that white one today. I called the dealer and he said that he was gonna have the mechanic adjust the lifters cause it sounded rough to him. Correct me if i'm wrong but I heard you can't adjust the lifters in the jeep cause they're hydraulic...I'm not a mechanic so I don't know for sure. I did a little investigating on lifter noise and read that you can dump some gas in the crankcase and it'll clean out alot of the lifter oil fill plugs and quiet it down alot and then after put a quart of marvel mystery oil. Some people are saying that got rid of all their noise. So if it doesn't sound to bad I'll still probably walk away with it. My cousins a mechanic and I'm a DIY mechanic so I'm sure we'd be able to narrow down the problem and fix it. Wish me luck guys.

I'm not gonna lie, if it was me, I'd have pounded his face even though he had the means of buying you a new one. Driving drunk is not cool, even if it's not on public roads.

I agree totally! My mom was right there so I showed restraint cause I don't like getting out of control in front of her. Don' get me wrong I drink but as soon as I start my keys go in my pocket and don't come out. I always keep some spare cash in my wallet for a taxi just in case.

So I went to the dealer to check out the white jeep yesterday and they said the mechanic had it in the shop cause it had noisy lifters and needed to be adjusted. Should I be worried? Can the lifters in the 4.0 even be adjusted? It's a really clean body inside and out but I'm a little concerned about lifter noise at 136k miles. What do you guys think?

Damn. Yah, I quit drinkin in fall of 2006 when I ALMOST did somethin like that in my new to me then Silver 01. Too many close calls which would have looked like that or worse. Cause a liquid ladden heavy right foot can be real bad. yours isnt the first though. If that 99 dosent have ABS, then its got the Chrysler8 1/4.
