If you flush and fill your system routinely (once every couple years should be MORE than enough) and put on a thermostat when you need one, I dont see why youd have an overheating issue (unless something was wrong). Mine runs at 210 whether its 98 out (currently) or -30 (all winter). In mid-January when its -30 here, I cant go more than 5 miles down the road and its at 210. How in the world will hood vents lower my temp? Now Ill give you that it might let some of the hot air out that is otherwise trapped under the hood, but honestly, I think this is more of a looks mod than performance mod.
I plan to put vents in my hood and while I would agree with the fact the engine is designed to run at a certain temperature, the vents make a lot of sense. Consider, the hood in stock form traps heat, remember heat rises, and by doing so contributes to excessive heat build-up in certain conditions. For example stop and go traffic and rock crawling trail riding where there is very little, if any airflow. Part of the engineering to allow the engine to run at a given temperature, is dependent on airflow.

I'm in Texas. Hood vents do help excess heat escape from the engine bay, especially during slow vehicle-speed trail crawling.

They have also been noted as helping to reduce heat soak issues with the injectors.

Thanks for the input guys. They are a bit pricey, but something I am keeping in mind for down the road.

Hood louvers help heat escape. Full stop. Less heat trapped in your engine bay is better.

The only debate should be concerning the cost of assisting the heat to escape.

Radiators and fans do a lot more toward cooling. There are plenty of issues water in the engine bay can do...but if you open your hood and,eep things in good shape...you'll be fine.

Lot of hot rodders use to (some still do) louver their rides. I believe you might find a place that has the press that makes them, and it might be less expensive.

I think I would wrap my exhaust before punching holes in the hood. Washers under the hood also work.

For me its about keeping cool on the trail at low speeds or bumper to bumper traffic. When you aren't.going fast and there's not much air moving through the radiator letting things warm up. Those vents will let the excess heat escape helping keep welcome temps dow.

Recent picture had me thinking...what about fender location for venting? Discuss.

Doesn't work for the intended purpose of hood vents. To run fender vents you would have to drill holes in your wheel wells and run ducting.
Plus imo they look fruity.........

Yeah, thats what I was thinking too, but figure it might be worth some discussion....maybe someone has done it.

what about running hood pins like a drag car so you could just remove the hood quickly, and throw it in your roof rack when you get to the trail?

not a fan on how they look but if your wanting to run cooler you can get a daul elec fan or setup a toggle for it always on, id just make my own vents or get a scoop for it. in my opinion they just look odd

I absolutely have to say that is incorrect. I just did my vents 2 weeks ago and it dropped my engine temps 15 degrees on the trail.

I just bought some chaep duct vents with a flat back and 6 holes for self tapping screws... Cost me les than $10 and took about an hour.

Well, at the risk of it looking "fruity" in the words of ODGreen , I started a thread on that very subject a couple of days ago, but with a twist that combines fender vents and snorkels.
