I agree with jeepin'Hubb's. Search craigslist and find whats comparable. Use some common sense and price accordingly. I bout a Dakota once, had it for 1.5years, added 24,000 miles during that time and sold it for $100 more than I bought it for. Didn't do anything but put gas in it during that time.
If you're patient, the right person might just come along and snag it up for asking price.

Funny story...
I chased down inarschenk in traffic and asked to buy his XJ
Completely trashed 97+ cherokees with 220k miles go for $4500 here. I'd been looking for an NP242 equipped XJ for 8 months so I got a really good sense of the market. After seeing 3 NP242s in 8 months (one that didn't go more than 35mph, one that the guy stopped responding to my calls, and one that had 250k miles with no AC), I decided I'd just to a swap.
I had a buyer for the car I was driving coming that night to pick up my daily driver, so I said to myself, "Self, if you see that XJ you've been admiring for the last year or so on the way to work today, see if he'll sell it to you."
So I did. And it worked out. Happy-happy deal for everyone involved. Every mod he'd done is something I would've had to do to a $4500 stocker anyway. I didnt feel like I had to worry about drivability since I knew it was a DD.
This is my third XJ (93 police package, 99) so I was super stoked when I saw he'd already done the intake manifold swap and replaced the exhaust manifold. I did that on my 93 and swore I'd never do that again.

lol not here you wouldnt. You could get a 2wd 95 with a slipping transmission and busted hatch or an 88 with no wiper motors and a busted ignition.
Or maybe a 99 with 256k on the clock with a salvage title.

How much could I get for my Jeep?
Around me I've seen clean reliable xjs with 200k and $500 lifts for $2k all day
Not downing his xj just how the market is near me different everywhere I'm sure I'd go $2500 tops if it has recepts
