LOL....ignorant. Well...I think you need to do some reading about the research done by all kinds of organizations like AAA, IIHS, and others. Start here: http://allstatenewsroom.com/channels...llion-annually

That is a 100% of 16 YO over 18/19 and 200% of older drivers. I've seen data that is higher.

You must live in the middle of the desert or amazon among isolated tribal people...lol. If you at such a young age are the best driver you know...you don't know many people.

See, I know the perspective. Even taking everything from defensive driving training to police pursuit training (no...I wasn't looking to be a cop, just had the money to burn and wanted as much training as possible) I knew there was experience I lacked. Ask yourself...how many miles are you driving per year. I started out driving almost 40,000 miles just a year after I got my license (17). It was repeated the next two years, and close to that for multiple years (gas pricing is restricting my time on the road these days). But still...looking back, I was so inexperienced and made a number of mistakes.

Do I think you specifically are a bad driver...no, I don't know you. But the bottomline and point I'm making is statistically, drivers should NOT be licensed before age 18, and should be on a graduated driver licensing (I also support continuous retesting and licensing for all ages). This is especially true for vehicles like Jeeps and other SUVs (esp. older ones) because they have characteristics that tend to not be experienced until it's too like (emergency maneuvers).

If you think you are a good driver, one way you can prove it...buy a Davis CarChipPro (if you have a 1996 and up vehicle with OBDII port). It will record your driving habits (speed, braking, accelating and more). In fact it is the device that Progressive uses for their "MyRate" program. Sign up for them...and see if your rates go down or not (I believe they won't raise your rate, but will drop it if you meet the thresholds). If you don't have a newer vehicle...you can buy a GPS tracker that will record some data, but isn't nearly as precised, but will show how close to the speed limit you go, how fast you approach a stop light and take off (with a larger error margin).

I started driving when I was 6 at the ranch and drove to school when I was 13. I drove a rather nice car too, so it wasn't that it was a complete beater.

Not everyone is irresponsible at that age, WW.

Best memory was one day I went fishing and my master cylinder went out on me while slowly going down a hill on my property

*stand back*... *clear!!*... *pszzzzt* BACK FROM THE DEAD! I was around 16 years old when i got my xj. My parents bought the 1993 xj "California car" from her coworker with 125k miles, back in 2010, for 800 bucks. Mint condition besides the oxidized paint. I bought a bmw 528i my jr year in high school (which i recently sold) and am now rekindling the flame by building it up. I will always love this xj.
