1988.5-1993 XJ/MJ 6-242, AX-15i
1994-1999 XJ 6-242, AX-15e
1993-1993.5 ZJ 6-242, AX-15 (unknown version)
1988.5-1995 YJ 6-242, AX-15 (probably mixed apps ~1993/1994)
1997-1998 TJ 6-242, AX-15e

1999-2006 TJ 6-242 M5, NV3550 (6-242 M6, NSG370)
2000-2001 XJ 6-242, NV3550

The AX-15 has a removable bellhousing, so if you have the bell you can also source one from a V6-equipped Dakota of similar vintage, and I believe the AX-15 is the same gearbox as the Toyota W150 (can anyone confirm this?)

The AX-15i uses the "internal" concentric slave cylinder/throwout bearing assembly - it's the one that's a pain in the ****. The AX-15e uses the conventional "external" slave cylinder - the one that can be serviced without having to drop the wretched transmission.

The V6-equipped Dakota version will have the LA-block bellhousing pattern (MOPAR V6-238, V8-318/360, V10-488/505,) and it will need to be changed over to the AMC-pattern (Gen II/III V8, "Modern Era" 199/232/242/258 I6) before it can be mounted in a Jeep. However, the splines should be the same - 1.125"-10.

I am unsure about the input splines on the Toyota version, but it should be a fairly simple matter to sit down with a clutch catalogue and figure out which to use if it's not 1.125"-10.

The AX-15i uses a pilot (generally) of .585", while the AX-15e uses a .875" or so pilot. (The AX-15i uses the same pilot size as the BA-10 it often replaces.)

The NV3550 uses the same bellhousing and clutch fork as the AX-15e. The NV3550 was also found in V6 Dakotas, and I think some V6-262-powered S-series as well.

The transfer case adapters are 'clocked' flatter on the TJ and YJ versions than on all of the others - note this if you swap one of those into anything else. The swap goes the other way just fine - but if you put a "flat clocked" transmission in place of a "dropped clock" transmission, you're either going to have to redrill the adapter or "hammer massage" the transmission tunnel to clear the transfer case...

50 Miles out of Buffalo, and its a good thing you two have them then because around here if someone has one they dont let it go or if they're wrecked there crushed to fast for me to get to them, or at least thats how it is in buffalo when I herd there was one at M&M's wrecking yard.
