Yeah, It probably only works on older cherokee's but Id never use it unless I brought a jump pack to a junk yard to test an engine or if it was an emergancy and I lost my keyes.

A load of crap. Those are dummy wires that are getting cut, no need for insulated gloves, and there is going to be a lot of needed repairs after the "hotwiring" is done.
It can be done without cutting any wires, you just need a couple jumper wires and pulling the ignition switch out will allow you to release the steering lock. But why would you need to hotwire your own Jeep?

I personally wouldnt. I'd use it in the junkyard if I wanted to test an engine, they usually dont keep keyes around where I live, they just pull engines and assume they run.

Yeah it made no sense to me either, No Idea why they did it on a perfectly fine cherokee...could've done it on a junker but I guess you gotta use something lol

On a serious note, I'm looking at an 89 XJ tomorrow with a bad ignition switch. It'll start, but the key won't stay in the ON position unless you hold it. If I twist the two red wires shown in the video, it'll stay on? Or should I just bring a new switch with me (I'm most likely gonna buy the car anyway)

Sorry about the late reply computer has been down for awhile now. Id bring a switch if your certain your going to buy it because you can fix the problem right then and there instead of making more of a mess to clean up later on...besides if you dont buy it the people who own it are going to wonder where you leanred to hot wire from and get suspicious.

different steering column than the one pictured....not as easy access to the wiring as they show.
But yes... almost any vehicle can be hotwired as they show if you know which wires to jump out.

If the one you are looking at has the old GM style column the ign switch itself is mounted down the column toward the brake pedal and you can unscrew it and work it with a screwdriver or put a jumper wire on it.

But junk yard engines are usually drained with no fluids. Wouldn't running it dry ruin it?

hahaha, use a screw driver and pound it into the ignition. Then pull out your wallet because the repair costs are going to start pouring in. This is the worst how-to ever. Not to mention you can jump all those wires without cutting anything.

(did you know in 2008 vehicle thefts declined for the fifth year in a row) Not anymore!
