Default I need brighter headlights

I have a 1999 XJ and I need brighter headlights. The stock sealed beam lights suck and aren't sufficent enough to see the animals on the side of the road at 4:30am. I've been looking for an HID kit but have yet to find one. 4Wheelparts doesn't have one and when I call the local parts store they just look at me like a deer in the headlights.

I saw a guy selling a kit he had on here, but it was gone by the time I saw it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check out quadretec.com. You should start with the H4 upgrade first. From my understanding, you need to use the same housing if you were to switch to HID down the road. I have an 01 with the rampage H4 upgrade lights and it did make a huge difference.

-just my opinion, 4 wheel parts don't know jeeps, use anyone else for the help/parts/advise.

I haven't ever done HID's because honestly there seems to be a lot of work involved. From what I have read most people make there own kit because no one sells a complete kit that is worth a crap. I went on ebay and bought some autopal headlight housings for $30. I also bought an upgraded harness (80/100w) and currently run 80/100w bulbs. It is by far the best upgrade I have done because factory headlights on an xj are garbage. I'm sure someone on here has done a write up on an HID swap if you chose to go that route.

Look out for my headlight thread in the next few days! I upgraded my harness so far, but have the 100/80w headlights and just waiting for the lenses which are coming tomorrow!

I was going to go the HID route, but it is at least $300 to do it the correct way. The HIDs themselves, ballasts, and housings.

For less than $100 I got H4 lights, housings, and upgraded wiring.

Silverstars

Silverstars w/ wiring harness- You can see a minor difference. There is not more light, but the light is much brighter. I cannot wait to install the new H4 bulbs and Autopal housings tomorrow.

It's my understanding that to get the most out of hids you'll need to get real projector housings. I'm doing the autopal headlights, harness and bulb upgrade real soon, I've got the stuff just haven't installed it yet. In my opinion I'd try the autopal/harness/upgraded bulbs route first if your not set on getting hids, if you still want hids after that then I think you wouldn't have a problem reselling the parts in the forsale section.

I did check out the Rampage H4 system and will be ordering soon. I have also looked into the offroad H4 bulbs that are brighter than the normal ones.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it
