I say keep the jeep, it looks better and no comparison off road. That generation chevy truck was very reliable but is alot older than your xj. But if you need a truck than that may be the right decision.

Keep the Jeep. You can USE your Jeep. You would probably just pamper the Chevy.

i say jeep. they both turn heads but youll appreciate your jeep when it breaks becuase those trucks suck to work on. i wheel with my bud shawn who has a 97 stepside lifted pretty nice. tell you what when we go down to the shop and work, I can work circles around him on my jeep compared to his truck. ifs just plain old sucks too. is that ifs? if so that wouldmake my descision right there.

If you figure out what's causing your horrible gas mileage then maybe you can fix it? Usually just a tune up, or re-gear if you need one.

Also... You can take the $4500 you'd spend on the Chevy, and get your Jeep painted or 1/4 of that price. Even less if you prep yourself. Then there's always Maaco, which will restore your vehicles cheaply. However this is a 50/50 shot in the dark. With Maaco, it usually depends on the shop you take it to, and the guys working there.

I have an '01 XJ and a '95 1500 extended cab stepside v6 (95K+ miles, better gas mileage than my XJ)

I still drive my XJ more and just use the Chevy on home improvement runs.

For my personal situation, the only real downside would be gas mileage for me. offroading isnt a giant part of my life right now because i dont have time or money and everywhere around me is mostly private or illegal, and honestly ive always had my eye on my buddys truck. Now hes willing to sell i kinda want to jump on it

Since you're asking, I'll give you my two cents.

Stepsides are the most worthless trucks you can own. They look pretty, but that's about it. 1990 is the ugly dash. Ever plan on lifting the truck (not just cranking down the torsion bars)? Hope you got a nice chunk of change hiding in your mattress. Standard cabs get old after awhile. TBI is crap, I don't care what anyone says. IFS brings the suck. BTW, I own three Chevy trucks, so don't think I'm biased towards the Jeep. If you don't like your Cherokee, sell it and buy a real truck (and quit your *****in' about MPG, if you get double digits, you have no right to complain).
