got it working! thanks again for the help, the sender was bad all together so I replaced it and now the gauge works perfectly, now I'm trying to figure out why the cruise control does not work (not that I need it but I would like it when I do need it lol)

On the cruise control, check the wiring at the base of the turn signal switch. They tend to break there. You can see it without removing anything, usually. Just look on the back side of the switch near the column.
