So I thought it would be a good idea to wheel with a couple people that had nice shiny rigs.
WRONG!
They were ahead of me cause they wanted to lead. I'm like "yea whatever" what happens? The lead guy keeps stopping every 15 feet and busts out the snips and saws and whatever else to trim back bushes and crap. Finally I get fed up from stopping all the time and told "look.. Why are you out here if your worried about scratches and dents.. Its gonna happen!"
He's like well I just had it detailed.
.. I Palmed and told him to let me lead and I'll break all the stuff away with my rig.. Ok?
Anybody ever go through this out there?
I'm never wheeling with nice shiny rigs again. Freaking annoying!! God..

Yeah it happens all the time. Usually people with wranglers. I just go by myself nowadays, sick of wasting time. Its the most fun for me to go where I know I will have problems and won't come out without bruises. And very rarely anyone around here wheels like that. They either waste the whole day trying not to scuff their Rubicons or have fully custom rock crawlers that know could make it anywhere with zero problems. I had a guy in front of me ones constantly stopping, checking his I phone and inflating and deflating his tires every five minutes depending on a terrain. You could make that trail on bald street tires if you had some *****.

Nothing wrong with a clean rig. Every week or 2 I wash my Jeep and every couple washes it gets polished, tire shined, the whole works. And I hate mud.
But when I hit the trails, I don't *****-foot around trees, rocks, mud or anything. I have dents, scratches, missing paint, a huge scrape on my driver door and a cracked taillight from trails most people won't take ATVs on because they are so narrow.

i'm not out there to act like a 15 year old kid showing off. even tho i tread lightly, i still enjoy every bit of it. don't care about scratches, but i don't trash the trail or my rig either.
show me an obstacle, and if there is a trail to it, i will give it a try. as long as it's within both mine and my jeeps capabilities.
but yeah, i've had the newb with his shiny new rubicon that whined when he touched his fender against a tree and creased his shiny new flair. he probably had the dealer fix it and never went off road again.

I'll try stuff I'm comfortable on, I don't much care for mudding it's just too hard on bearings electrical etc. I'll cross it if its on the trail but I don't go out of my way to find it. my XJ is also my DD, so I can't afford to just tear it up to "try" something I don't think I can make anyways. I wheel like I used to ride sportbikes and don't tend to get in over my head. always remember "stupid hurts"

My biggest pet peeve on the trails is the people who drive 1 mph on the access trails.
and i have to stop and wait for 5 minutes at each intersection.
i try to get groups together where the people arent afraid of hitting a bump at more than 3 mph.
I like to spend my day wheeling something fun, not spend half of it driving like a grandma on dirt roads.

The whole keeping it nice thing is why I just decided not to lift my new to me 99. Its nice rides great and has a sunroof and I was going to lift and wheel it and try to keep it nice...
Forget about it! I decided to put more money into my wrecked 91 Heep so I don't catch a bunch a ****. Lol I wanna be able to get into some sketchy stuff anyways.
