I'm at a crossroads with two xj's, what should I do?
I have a 1995 XJ 5 speed that has been lifted and modified. It needs a new engine. I only have 2k to spend on replacing the motor. Yesterday I was given a 1996 XJ 5 speed, its all original and has never been offroad. It is way to nice to swap the engine over. My question is should I use the 2k for a suspension lift in the 96 and swap over the roof rack, bumpers, rock sliders, winch and lights from the 95 or use the 96 as a daily driver and use the 2k to replace the engine in the 95? I understand 2k might not be enough to replace the engine unless I do the work myself. I couldn't do it myself as I don't have the proper knowledge to tackle a job that big.

There is plenty of information online about removing and installing motors in jeep Cherokees. If you can swap all that stuff you can handle changing a motor.
Drive the 96 while you work on the 95.
Then you can have two jeeps

Looking at some of the videos if I knew I had help and the proper tools to do it I would do the engine swap. Being that I don't have the tools or space to tackle the engine swap, I'm leaning towards parting it out.

2k is plenty to replace a motor. You can find running 4.0 for less then 50 bucks. There's no way you woukd get charged 1500 to do the swap. At least not in my area.

[QUOTE=Martlor13;3355452]left off a 0 haha! Meant 500..but many go for less....2k is plenty to keep her going.[/QUOTE
Thanks for clearing that up. I'd pay 500 for a nice running motor. Then would just need to find someone to help me install it.

I had a feeling that getting a free xj was to good to be true. It just rewarded me with the first fix it needs and its a major one.

Finally as of this Monday I'll have the 95 up and running again. Pretty excited to be driving it again. Only a few small issues still need addressing: it needs a new wiper motor in front, have a electrical issue with the headlights and dash lights (replaced the dash switch and I can get one or the other to come on but not both together).
