they did fix one thing
City MPG • 39.2
Highway MPG • 58.9
Combined MPG • 49.6
not like I would buy one but it takes the sting out of the way it looks a little.

Face it: Jeep has been dead for years. The XJ is an early 80's engineering product. The fact that it lasted until 2001 is a testament to its original design genius.
Personally, I think Jeep's been dead since they introduced the Wrangler.

The Fiat Panda's really not a bad car, I just hate to see it badged as a Jeep. I'd bet it's more off-road capable than my CRV is, which is more than most soccer moms will need. As a Compass replacement, it's probably not so bad.
The way I see it, building some volume models (like this) for the masses gives Chrysler capital to keep building offroaders (like the Rubicon) for the enthusiasts. I mean, it's a little hard to say that Jeep's going the wrong direction when they're offering a model that comes STOCK with Dana 44s and electronic disconnects. It's a bit of a bummer that they no longer make a cheap offroader that's cheaply upgradeable, but it is a dwindling market.
That said, I hope that Chrysler doesn't forget Jeep's core competency. There are very few serious offroad vehicles left, and you can only water down a brand so much before the public sees through it... ask Pontiac.

Right on brother. I see what your saying but the YJ brought new life to jeep. if they did not replace the CJ jeep would have been gone because the people weren't buying the CJ and thats how buyers expressed that they wanted something different. yes the TJ started 97 was a big wreaking ball then the death of the AMC based inline six in 02 was the end of the trail for real ORV's

If you read the last few paragraphs it looks like this thing isnt really a jeep, and chrysler has no intention of making it a jeep. Sounds like the website badged a fiat to make some silly point
