How is this the smart thing to do? Someone ripped him off, so he's going to rip the bank off? Seriously, this is NOT the smart thing to do, even if its possible.

He got taken, it sucks but he fell for it. Happens all the time. You CAN NOT send money through PayPal as a gift. I dont care who you are, etc., the fees are NOT that big. If the seller wants to sell something, they can suck up a small fee just like every other person out there on ebay, classified ads, web site retailers, etc. All of us selling for a living pay fees whether it be through the internet, banks, etc. You pass on the protection then you shouldnt be protected. EVERYONE needs to be accountable for their actions, not just the thieves. Scammers wouldnt exist if people didnt fall for them.

Im sorry you got ripped off dude, I really am. Almost everyone who has made a monetary transaction has been at one time or another. Live and learn. I hope you can track the guy down and get your cash back, or at the very least make his life miserable, but crying to the bank isnt the right or smart thing to do.

Um, if I pay through PayPal, it comes out of my bank, therefor the transaction includes the bank. You know why I have a bank?? To deal with my money and insure it!!!! This is the correct thing to do and reason why we all use banks, to help with our money. Why bother using a bank if you never want to be protected by them? You must own/run a bank.

No need to get snippy, But sorry I think most of us would agree with Bigvig, why rip off the bank and not anything about the turd that did the bad deed? He is the person that is in the wrong. So instead, and no offense to the OP, instead of a lesson learned if not able to get money back.... Go to the bank and file a claim there.... Where he willingly sent this money on the honor system, trusting another person, so therfor sometime soon, intest rate to protect my money is raised up because there is people like you, that obviously when not happy about something they purchase run right to the bank and file some claim to get a refund on what they spent and ya prolly keep the item you purchased. Not tryin to sound like a "B" word here, but no I dont own a bank, but do work my pretty lil tushy off for what I put in it, and when I gotta pay more for nonsense like what you are proposing he do, just chaps my hide!

How is one ripping the bank off when they have the option to chargeback? A chargeback only pulls back the money from wherever it is he sent it. If anything Paypal is the one getting screwed and thats a good thing. Paypal should not be trusted. Op has a much better chance at resolving this through his bank than paypal.

I agree with you. It's not like you purchased, say a trac bar. You reviewed the product and then file a claim with the bank. Not is that a scam but it's also illegal. However, the bank is there for a reason. The government insures you up $250000 for a reason. If you've been scammed, this is one thing I think you should do!

So I bump into a guy on the street who says he has an XJ with $20K in it and he'll sell it to me for $2K. Give him half now and he'll meet me at "location X" and we'll finish the transaction. I agree and show up at "location X" but he never shows.

Can you imagine the responses if this were posted here!?!?!?!

Now seriously, this isnt much different than what happens when you agree to gift someone money for a transaction through PP. Thats why PayPal DOESNT protect you. Youre circumventing their fees by trying to cheat them so they say "screw you too" basically. EVERYONE who runs a business has fees regardless of the business type. I run a few retail websites. I have tons of fees for them AND bank fees to take payments through my sites. Its a part of running a business. At the same time if someone is selling something and wants payment through PP and cant pony up $3 bucks in fees, DONT BUY FROM THEM!!!!! The honor system doesnt work unless you personally know the guy in real life and trust them.

Crying to the bank is NOT the right thing to do and its why banks get bailouts, interest rates go up and I pay MORE fees. Be responsible, be ACCOUNTABLE for your actions and dont depend on someone to bail you out if you have a brain fart.

Again with this? Banks give you the option to chargeback for a reason, if it didnt things would be no different than they were during the great depression. Why do you even have a bank then? Looks like your content with having all your money in your pocket so if you lose it your SOL. I pay my bank fees every month and ill be damned if I wasnt protected by scams.

Yeah. I've had wellsfargo forever and whenever some funny stuff happens they have always helped me out every time

The only complaint about wells is they always try and sign me up for different things there.
