Doesn't take much damage to exceed the threshold of them wanting to total it.
If that is the route it goes, you usually can buy the vehicle back from the insurance company cheap. Consider that.

from what I have seen around here (rust belt) that would be a total; but being he is in the SW where there is no road salt they seem more likely to fix things from the forums I frequent....

Hell, when they totaled mine I got to keep it...
But thats Michigan with "Mini-tort", you get 500 bucks and thats it, unless you have full coverage.
Can you get a pic from the passengers side fender area?
looks like an easy fix, but the inner fender stuff might be bent up.

Probably gonna total it. Buy it back, use the extra money to fix it and drive it for many more years.
How its done in VA; If they give you say 4k for your vehicle and you want to keep it they will adjust the salvage price out of the total and give you the remainder to fix it with. After the vehicle is repaired you take it to a VA State Inspection Station of your choice, have it inspected and the insurance company and the DMV will remove the "salvage" from the title.

The wheel is straight, I didn't get a side shot. The fender flare is still connected to the car. Right now, it's sitting with the tow company until my insurance can go look at it. The other thing is it sounds like something is hitting the fan and it was leaking coolant. I'm hopeful the unibody is still straight. And if they do want to total it, plan on buying it back.

oh man, yeah they will probably try to total it but you can buy it back and fix if, maybe yourself, to register it as salvage you will need a chp inspection, vins and all that, and brake and light inspection and most likely smog.
insurance companies are a pain especially if the other persons insurance is footing the bill, they tried to total my sisters passat because she wanted the damn window tinted.
on another note is that right at 880?

The other persons insurance should be footing the bill because it was her fault seeing as she cut into my lane. And it's by 680, right by the treat exit in walnut creek

If the pass door gap has altered or the pass side wheel has been moved back id say its an easy total. Dont seem like thats gonna deter you tho. Fix it, keep drivin it. My old xj was salvage and was in a way worse wreck, and i got years of use.
