The way this all happened is...well, freakish to say the least. Pulled the XJ into the garage, put it neutral and put on the parking brake; I was going to check the tranny fluid level. I've done it a bunch of times...no problem. As soon as I get out, I throw a wheel block behind the front tire to be safe. However, as I'm starting to step out, the XJ starts rolling backwards. Now I'm neither small nor weak and that garage is level...and I put the parking brake on...and it's in neutral. But, don't ask me why, I couldn't stop it! The edge of the door is in my chest, I'm pinned between the body and some shelving and the back tires go off the lip of the garage slab on to a steep down sloping driveway. As I clear the garage door, I'm able to get out of the way and watch my beloved XJ do a reverse Dukes of Hazard through my fence, over a rock wall, through the yard, across a usually busy street (thank God not at this moment) and down a very steep embankment into a wooded area. When I went down to check to confirm what happened, the shifter lever is on "N" and the parking brake is all the way up.

The important thing is that no one got hurt. Atleast physically. Its bad enough that it happened, but watching it as it happens has to hurt just the same.
You got lucky. Reminds me of my 93 after a hit and run years ago. Was near mint at the time too. Both front framerails kicked to the right 12" with an upwards twist. Minor burn from the airbag, a hickey from the seatbelt and sore for a couple days, that was it. Calling my mother at 3am was the hard part. But atleast I was the one calling her.
So, BigJD, whats in store for your next XJ?

Nice find. All the best, and remember to chuck all your wheels.
I am also thinking the parking brakes were not working right on your old ride when it slid down. Or you didn't pull up on the lever hard enough. But because the parking brakes have so many parts that degrade over time, I am thinking something was wrong with them.
