Hey guys I'm looking into getting a kayak and I've been searching around and I seem to have found a nice kayak, anyways does anyone have any good mounting ideas? It's a 10 foot kayak so shoving it inside is out of question.. I've looked online and found a set of rain gutter racks and kayak blocks to attach. Will that work if I strap it down?

I don't see why they wouldn't work. I always just put my kayak on the stock rack though, as long as you can tie knots/have plenty of rope, youre good. Ratchet straps work just as well. Just make sure you secure it down in the front of your jeep as well, not just strapping it down side to side. It also is nice to have it tied in back as well, I just go from the end of the yak to the trailer hitch with a rope.

If youre going to get a roof rack for your kayak, why not get a kayak specific one, that cradles the hull, like this one:

Oh okay I get what you mean. I have a roof rack right now but I can easily take it off to putt a kayak on. So I can put it on my stock racks?

definitly. I have some of those exact blocks, but I only use them if the kayak is going up on top of a car without a rack at all. If youre worried about scratching the kayak/stock rack, you can always put a towel in between. I've never had a need for that, but my kayak is also kind of a POS.

Awesome that'll save me a lot of money. Ill be sure to just mount it to my stock rack first and see how it goes. Need the kayak first. Lol

Ah. I've been looking at angler kayaks so I can do some good fishing.

yeah, hopefully it works out, just get some good quality straps or rope/don't drive too fast. I've had a bad experience from driving too fast with crappy ropes holding the kayak.

Yeah I know but the sit ins seem more difficult to fish out of. The anglers have the pole holders, live wells, trolling mount and other fun stuff. The open area seems like it would be easier to change out tackle also.
