Keyless entry remote, where to buy?
Hey guys, i was wondering if any of you had any recommendations about where i could pick up the remote for keyless entry. When i bought the Jeep it didn't come with one, but i does have the unit installed, just no remote. I did do some googleing and found a few sites, but im not sure if i need the grey or black one, does it matter?
I have a 2001 Cherokee Sport
Also, has anyone had any luck programming these things themselves? I heard the dealer can do it, but it runs like a $100.
Thanks in advanced guys!

Yeah it's a factory system. I just found out i'll need to get a Key from them as well. I went to get a spare key cut yesterday, and was told it wouldn't be able to start the engine, only open the doors. The must have just switched to this in 00 or 01....

that's because they didn't cut you a sentry key. without the sentry chip, you can open the doors, and start the jeep, but it won't run for long.
as for a remote, just poke around all the newer xj's at the junkyard, sometimes they have a remote on the keys in the ignition.
i've seen quite a few with them. just grabbed one for my buddy and they didn't charge me for it.

Im going to have to try and do that. I just went to the Jeep Dealership by my house just to see how much programming and all that would be, i was about ready to punch the guy in the face after he told me what it would all cost.
1 Key (is going to be a backup since i only have one) = $94.00
1 Remote = $100
Programming fee per unit =$30 x 2
Over $200, you have got to be kidding me, how the heck are these places still in business.
I did find them online for WAY cheaper, and that's obviously the route im going to take, but im still kinda surprised how much it's all going to cost, just for a remote, I mean, i might as well just buy a new system. For $200.00 im sure i could pick up a new keyless system WITH remote start, which in Minnesota is a huge plus. Hmmmm...maybe thats what i'll do..

i'm sure they do if they look like this one. mind you, this one is for my tj.
your jeep should have an immobilizer sticker on the front door windows.

I don't think my key has a chip. It's the same style key, but with the Chrysler logo, no Jeep text. Also no immobilizer stickers on either window. I feel like the Cherokee's (Sport especially) seem have been made more "bare bones" electronicly, when compared to TJ's and GC's. Just my observation.

That's interesting....I bought a blank chip key off ebay because that's what my other one is....Took it to the dealership and just had them cut it first...The guy said give it a shot, but it probably won't work...It did start up...but only ran for about 5 seconds...Had to have them program it...Think it cost me about 60 bucks.......Was the key you had cut just a regular key blank or a chip key blank?..
