Default Law?

I finally got the lights on my roof rack to work last night. So, I went around the block to test them out. I also had on my regular lights...I was pulled over by a cop and he gave me a warning that those were for "off road use only."

Does that sound right?

P.S. Im in Michigan, I cant seem to find anything about over head lighting like mine.

did you have them on? if so, well duh your not the only car on the road...and if they weren't on and he pulled you over its probably because they weren't covered. In NJ they can give you a ticket for not having covers on them because they really don't want you to use them on the streets binding everybody.

Right, I was just testing them out before I hit the trails, it wasnt a huge deal because he let me go with just a verbal.

I did have them on, but actually I was on the road all alone as it was about 2am. I wasnt actually on a road either. I was stopped in the alley behind my house and he just stopped to let me know more than anything I guess. It was actually nice of him, I dont need covers according to him.

Maybe he actually thought you were spotlight hunting stray cats... Do you have to have a license for strays up there?

it also falls under exceeding the maximum number of head lights. The max is 4. either 2 lows and 2 fogs(on the bumper or lower) or 2 low/2hi for the older cars like the wagoneer which have 4 head lights.

in MI also, its probably if you had them on and were driving. if you were in a parking lot aiming them, i dont think your would of had any trouble. The cops around here dont seen to care if the covers are off so i dont THINK you need them on when driving. If i take my covers off for a wheeling trip, they stay off till i get it washed which can be a long while lol.

keep them off unless someone flashes there brights at you

If thier lights on top of thier car arent covered.....mine aren't either. Call me out, I'm sorry. But I have no respect for the badge. They think it's a crown and not a badge. OK, off my soap box now.

Man, these replys will be great

I work for a police equipment supply store. I sell 'em their handguns, AR's, body armor, ammo, etc. Pretty much anything you could imagine a cop having. We recently bought a company in S. Carolina. Arringtons.
