Come on, man, don't generalize. You and I both know they are there for a reason, and some good guys are still out there. Even before I even knew my employer existed I *NEVER* had any issues with a police officer. I've even been so lucky as to have gotten a warning for 14 over, and I've done some *STUPID* ****. If you are cool, polite, and down to earth, they will be to. If you go into the situation with the "you have no common sense, you have a stick up your ****, I have no respect for you even though I probably don't know you and I was most likely doing *something* wrong attitude, what can you expect? They are doing a job.

Back on topic. Neither in NC or TN did the lights have to be covered, but I've ran with them on in TN and nothing. Greensboro is full of compact cars, they just make the interior a lighting studio so i dont even uncover them on the road

Well I think I got it figured out. Thanks for all of the help, and the cop actually was nice about it and just told me to not have them on while driving, he actually complimented my rig and said he hoped the lights worked out for me.

I've been around looking for spots to take pics of the XJ crawling on top of "city" stuff. A couple times cops have stopped and asked about the truck. Which is funny if you can picture me half parked on top of an area business's steps, and a cop not caring.
I was also running to the gas station for a soda run when I first got the truck. Had a front plate from an expired car as the tag, not even attempting to be legal. It had no stickers, just the front plate. Milwaukee cop was behind me, followed me to the gas station. We both got out, got sodas, and he actually said "hey, we don't get too many mud-ers around Milwaukee. Nice to see someone doing something with their 4x4!" I know he saw the incredibly illegal tag in my back window.

Yeah, this guy was real nice. It probably helped that I didnt get defensive and just listened to him and explained to him what I was doing. I made a little small talk, he asked me a few questions about it and to have fun. So, it worked out good for me.

If you are worried, just flag down a local officer or sheriff and ask. They'll appreciate you asking. Or call the non-emergency line and ask to speak with someone who'll know.
