Light bars, obsolete?
Im talking about big light bars on the roof with big round spotlights like every badass truck used to have. Im asking because I found one with 4 big lights for cheap locally to me. Granted, its from the 80s but its in decent shape. But all Ive been seing is these new led lights that are tiny and put out gobbs of light. Is the age of the big lightbar dead? I can see how the big bar could be a big pain to wire up and draw lots of amps of power. Not to mention the wind noise and all. So, what do you guys think, go old school or get modern?

They are obsolete compared to current led light technology! To me the only reason you would have them is for looks.. but to me LEDs look cooler!
Like you said led lighting is smaller so it is more out of the way and in most cases led lights are much more durable during impact such as tree branches.
Also as you said the amp draw on a big old light bar is going to be massive compared to modern led bars!
You should check out WWW.olympusoffroad.com to see the newest type of lights on the market, the pricing may surprise you!

HIDs still have their place too. you wont get the distance out of a light bar that you will a set of quality HIDs unless youre spending close to 2-3 grand. a pair of good HIDs like rallye 4000s are still 5-600 bucks tho.

You guys have mostly confirmed what I was thinking. The only reason I was even considering it was the price. $40 for a gutter mount bar with 4 big spots already mounted and wired. One of the lights is bad but I thought it was pretty cheap for what I was getting. I tend to do my upgrades as they fall into my lap. LOL.

Thankfully those huge gaudy bro-truck light bars will start to disappear. The tech is becoming common and cheap enough to replace every single light on a vehicle with LEDs and there is no reason at all not to.

Leds are smaller and use less power is why most run them today. If you like the old school big round off road lights use them.If you need a light bar look at http://www.kevinsoffroad.com/cart/xj...mounted-p-691/
