locker on a dd
alright i have a 92 xj with a 3 inch lift and 31 m/ts. i want to make it capable on the trail but still be able to have a smooth dd. i want to throw a locker in the front. it would be an aussie or something around that price because im a poor *** student haha. what are your opinions? front or rear and what are the cons about throwing a locker in a dd?

don't lock the front in my OPINION. going up hill all the weight of the vehicle is on the rear axle. going down hill all the wieghts on the front (when was the last time you skinny pedaled down a hill?) put it in the rear. further more, for the most operating ability on the road get an ARB or OX Locker.(something you can disconnect while on road and engage when in the fun stuff.

Completely agree with a locker in the rear, that's where I put mine. If you cant afford an ARB then a lunchbox is fine. I've got a powertrax no-slip locker and it doesn't click on turns, my buddy has run an Aussie for 2 and a half years and had no problem. The click isn't that bad on it and you'll soon tune it out. The first week mine was a bit loud, but it got settled in. I've had my locker a bit more than a year an love it

another vote for aussie in the rear axle. i didn't mean the clicking on mine. easy to install. if u lock the front, do a truetrac lsd, or selectable but they will be more $.

You people should learn his off-road environment before you suggest which end to lock first!!!
So, what do you wheel? Where are you located (Do you drive in snow)?

i will not be in the snow at all as i am in southern california. I will be wheeling in mostly rocky mountain trails and the occasional trip to the sand dunes. Ive been leaning more to the aussie locker because of price and easy install im just debating on the front or rear.

I've got a Trac-Lok carrier I'm going to put in my D35 rear, and I plan on adding a Spartan LBL to the front.
One word about locking/Posi units if you get in an off camber situation and spin the wheels, your going to slide sideways down the grade.
I got a Bronco with a 9" locker in the rear and with it you actually rarely need 4wd mode.
