Locker vs winch
opinions on which is better for the DD/weekend warrior. keep in mind the responce should be based on the premous than i am not the CEO of a major corporation, have 0 sponcers, mild mech abilities and i love to push the rig to it's limit.
if you had a few hundred bucks what wold you buy?

I would go with a winch. I had one on my last XJ and it came in handy. I would like a locker but if you get stuck a winch is worth it's weight in gold. Sure with a locker it's easier not to get stuck but what happens when you do. I was in alot of predicaments were I needed the winch and glad I had it.

Mostly it would depend on how you wheel. Do you go with friends when you wheel, or do you sometimes go by yourself? If you never wheel by yourself I would go with a locker in the front, but would not lock a D/35 rear axle.
My .02 on equipment is:
1. safety equipment
2. recovery points
3. lockers
4. armor
5. winch

I went with the winch first. Then locker. The locker made a night and day difference but when I do get stuck its a lot worse. The winch will get you out of what the locker got you into lol

Basically anything i could build for the rig i have or will. thigs i can't make i.e. lockers or winches was the thought. where do i spent the ever elusive green back.

After buying my first winch I wouldn't be without one, but I wouldn't have a wheeling rig without at least one locker either.
When you do buy a winch buy the best you can, as far as quality. You don't need a massive winch the Cherokee only weighs about 3500-4000 lbs so a 8000 lb winch will be more than enough.
