Dan,

One more thing for your particular trip....Are you taking the interstates across the plains states? If you're taking a different route like U.S. 2 across North Dakota and Montana do yourself a favor and go to Mapquest, chart your route, print out a list of all the gas stations on the way and take it with you. Depending on the time of day or day of week, you can go 100 miles or more on U.S. 2 without finding an open gas station. I don't use Mapquest much anymore but it IS good for that. Heck, it even gives you the gas station phone numbers and current price for regular gas!

Example:
Regular$3.80
Ok Tire Company

3117 2nd St W, Williston, ND 58801-6907

I bought mine with the intention of using it as a support vehicle for my girl friend to follow me across the country off road on my motorcycle 4800 miles then drive back from the other cost to florida. Would have been about 10,000 miles total and I don't think the jeep would have had a problem doing the trip. we broke up and are now in a custody battle so we never did the trip.

Omaha NE to Seattle. Twice. Second trip was with the lift. Got a warning ticket in WA, on my last day, for no mudflaps.

Sunday the XJ took me 2 1/2 hours up north and back.

That's the longest trip so far.

Haha, I'm still alive, I had just forgotten about this thread. I'm actually planning on taking the ZJ instead now since I know it's capable of such a trip. It's gas mileage is a bit better too. I thought it'd be cool to see how the XJ did but I'd rather have something that's been proven to be reliable. I'll be starting the drive late December.

Thanks for the advice. I figured this might be the case, it's pretty damn desolate up there lol. I was planning on doing US-2, but nothing's set in stone yet. I'll probably be bringing a 5gal gas can as backup too.

went from memphis,TN to oxford,MS and back to memphis a few weeks ago, almost got into 2 wrecks, and my brakes went out at one point in time but started working again. and when i started heading back home my fan belt started squealing like a little school girl.

shortly after i arrived home, i decided my xj should be an around town kind of vehicle.

I went from NY to Charlotte, NC in August. Was about 90 degrees sunny and soooo dam humid. I just bought my jeep and had it tuned up, oil change, fluids etc...
750miles straight through and not 1 problem. Stayed in Charlotte 2 weeks did another 500 miles there and than drove back to NY another 750 miles...

check your fluids, tires, antifreeze etc... good luck

How cool would it be to do a road trip in a few well built XJ's from London england across through Russia, to Alaska. Then finish in New york city....More or less around the world. I have been thinking about this for a long time, maybe the best road trip ever.

Drove from southern Maine to killington Vermont. Then from killington to Stowe. Then to jay peak on the Canadian border. Then to sugarloaf back on ta gelt Maine. Then back to my house. 7 day snowboard trip. 950 miles on odometer. and the 3 of us switched off driving. (i was scared to have a 16 year old girl drive my jeep but it was better than fallin sleep at the wheel! And Eric decided to roast my new all terrains in manchester v.t, which made me mad!)
