2500 miles, WI to CA over 7 days in Nov. At the time my 97XJ had about 170,000 miles on brand new 31" BFG MTs. We snakes our way through CO, UT and CA hitting several ski areas as they opened for the season. The old XJ was a champ.

Longest Jeep trip so far was only 475 miles (Rotterdam Ferry port to my parents in central France) but it took 14 solid hours due to bad weather (rain/snow) roadworks and traffic.
If you've never driven round the Route Peripherique in Paris on Christmas Eve, take it from me you don't want to. It took me 45 minutes to go off at one ramp, over the bridge and back down the other when we overshot a junction. The whole thing was solid, and the French don't really care about road markings, they only give way to size and dented bodywork. Jeep wins!
Jeep (1996 4.0/AW4/242) didn't skip a beat. Just make sure you've got spare oil and water/coolant on board. Check all your fluids and make sure everything is working before you set off.

edit: just checked your album - that kit looks ideal. How do you rate it?

I wonder if they'll ship to the UK....

we drove my buddy's jeep from central IN to Colorado Springs, CO. I believe it was a 99 w 230k on it and he did a rear disc conversion the night before. no problems. it was lifted bout 2" on 31s.
I wouldn't hesitate to drive mine anywhere. it's my dd, if I was afraid to drive it id get something else.

All post's seem to be positive and point to long trip reliability of the XJ, I say go ahead on your trip.
Keep in mind though there are no guarantees you won't break down/get stranded in the wilds of BC and freeze to death, just a heads up.

Good Thread - I like it!!! +150,000 on the clock. Last summer myself and a Buddy in an H3 left from Detroit Friday night and drove to Colorado. Budgeted two days to do it and arrived on shchedule Sunday afternoon. Had a little overheating issue, lost a caliper (long story) and rough idle after restarting at a gas stop. Wheeled six days in a row and wound up in Telluride Saturday night. Continued out to Utah and wheeled Moab for five days where we replaced Spark plugs to trouble shoot the rough idle and replaced the interior fan speed control resistor thing under the glove box. Developed a little Death wobble on the last day, but nothing really super scary. Left Moab Friday morning and drove to South Dakota to check out Mt Rushmore on Saturday. Left Rushmore Saturday around lunch and were back in Detroit Sunday evening to go back to work on Monday. All told I think we did 5,000 miles in roughly two weeks. XJ DID AWESOME!!!!

I've had my XJ for a little over 2 years and in that time we've made four trips to Yosemite (1200 miles each, round trip), one epic weekend trip to the Grand Canyon (1500 miles), one to Phoenix which included driving the Apache Trail (1600 miles), and four to Joshua Tree (500 miles each).
That's about 10,000 miles of adventure. The worst (and only) issue we've had was a flat tire at the Grand Canyon. It's too bad this thread got lost for so many years. Glad it's been revived.

Lakewood, Washington to Effingham, Illinois in two and a half days. Around 2300 miles.
Washington>Oregon>Idaho>Wyoming>Nebraska>Missouri> Iowa>Illinois.
Left Washington with my odometer at around 220 some thousand, she just crossed 240K the other day. I didn't have a single problem whatsoever other than gas mileage lol never once broke down or over heated. Got a little warm when I was at some higher altitudes in northern Wyoming, but never gave me any trouble!
Had all my stuff packed in, back was saggin' pretty low, I was getting about 15 mpg on the highway lol cost me around $400 in gas alone.

Drove from NYC->Carolina Beach, NC->Orlando, FL->Ocala, FL->Gainesville, FL->Carolina Beach, NC->NYC over the course of 1 week. I even wheeled it in Ocala and drove through a blizzard on my way home. She took it like a champ.

Since my last post on this thread, I took my 2001 XJ on two separate trips from Atlanta, Georgia to Glacier National Park in Montana each of the past two summers. Each trip was around 4500 miles. I drove straight there and then straight back, 2 1/2 days each way. Longest leg was about 1200 miles in one day. Lots of weather to deal with but the XJ was flawless. I even slept in the back of it a few times. It now has 195,000 miles on it and it's still my daily driver and the most reliable car in the family.

Three round trips to CO in the last 8 months roughly 1600 miles each trip. I've had zero issues whatsoever. I'd drive it anywhere. (old thread but a good one!)
