Looking for better MPG
We really like our 04 Grand Cherokee 4x4 with the 4.0, but it's getting harder to swallow to the 14-16 City. My wife drives it like a grandma 20 miles a day tops. Like 90% City.
Do the 2005's and up get anything noticeably better? Sure, it would be nice to have a 2014. 1 good thing we would get rid of is the design flaw associated with gas tank on the 04's.
We drove a 2005 Liberty Limited and that's nice, but small.
Thanks in Advance

Thought about that. What about handheld tuners? Take it the Dyno shop and dial it in?
I think Summit carries a cat-back for the 04's?

Wife has a 2012 KK (Liberty) and it gets around 17ish. Kind of disappointing for a vehicle this new but she wanted another jeep. My XJ was hers for about 5 years. Everything else about it as a vehicle is really nice except MPG. I think almost all the jeeps up until recently get this range. Patriot and Compass dont count as jeeps.

Was the straight 6 ditched in 2005 for the 3.7? 4.0, 4.7 not much difference in efficiency. I would love to ditch that gas *****.

The EPA rating for a 4.0L '04 Grand is 14 city/19 hwy. It's highly unlikely that you will improve on that no matter what you do. The best you can do is...
1. remove all extraneous weight
2. Keep tires inflated to recommended pressure
3. Maintain everything
A Grand Cherokee isn't the best city commuter unless that city is covered in snow most of the time, in which case, you sacrifice economy for safety. Otherwise, buy your wife a nice Prius.
