Default Lookng to buy First Cherokee

Hello new to the forum, so im having a hard time finding which model to get. I know most would say get an XJ and i would but the problem is that the area im in doesn't have a lot of them in good condition and there is a lot more WJ (with the 4.0l) in better shape. So my question is manly how much worse is the transmission on WJ is and how long do they last with or without maintenance?

Is there a better transmission that you can bolt on to it or is it cheaper to build the one it has in it?
Is it really that under power with the 4.0l when you lift add bigger tires (say 35inh tiers) and all your off road gear at any speed?
And is there a link or other forum that talks about the main areas that are prone to rust?

Any info or feed back is appreciated.

Welcome, Bep!

Well, first we have to know what you want to do with the thing? Heavy duty rock crawler? Daily driver, with occasional gravel roads? What's the weather in your neighborhood? Do you have to worry about snow and ice?

Thanks, the weather i have to deal with can be summed up in two words with Florida: rain and humidity. Ok so this is the best way I can explain what I want to do, which is to build a rig that can do long distance on road travel (highway/back state roads). To get to the trails that are pretty far in my home state or that are out of state. The types of trails I want to do will change depending on location, but for the most part I plan to do easy to moderate trails mostly in desert and mountain terrains. Hopefully this is enough info and apologies if it seems to much.
