Default Lowest price gears?

OK I have been searching and searching, want to see if anyone has found a great deal on 4.88 gears for an 8.8/D30 combo.

Thanks!

gear quality is something you dont want to skimp on. cheap gears make alot of noise and are very hard to setup. buy quality the first time. it will save you time and $$ in the long run!

OK so what is a good quality set of gears? I have heard that the Yukon gears are crap now but still command high prices, yet other low priced gears are good (Motive Gear).

I am new to the whole re-gearing thing and learning as I go along. All I know is I have 4.10 gears in my heep now, and have an 8.8 with 3.73 going in and pushing 35s I want to regear to 4.88. 35s and new lift going on in a few weeks (plus a whole bunch of fender trimming).

Note that this is for my YJ, not the XJ, but figured I would ask over here because I feel I have been neglecting CF since getting the YJ.

:-)

Once the YJ lift/regear/re-axle/bumpers/paint are all done the XJ will be going into the shop for rocker and floorboard replacement (ARMOR), new skids, 32s (I am currently running 31s with unmodified flares) and new stainless exhaust. I expect that to be sometime around Halloween!

where did you hear Yukon is crap? we have be a dealer for them for many years and never had an issue. we had a chip ring gear once but that was installer error.

where did you hear motive gear as being a quality gear set? when I was talking about a non quality gear, motive is what I was thinking about. lol

we have installed a few motive set and they are super loud. chipped teeth on a set also.

Superior makes a quality gear also. Years in the business and what I run in my rig with no issues are Yukon's.

I ran Yukons in my old axle and liked them so much that they are in my new axles as well.

Well I have no first hand experience with either, only what I have read on various internet forums. Yukon supposedly no longer makes gears in the USA and the quality has slipped quite a bit (again, I have no idea, just what I have read, and you know everything on the interwebz is true!).

Motive gear is based in Chicago, and from what I understand they used to be the crap, but have really improved in the last couple of years. Motive Gear/USA gear supposedly used to make the gears for Yukon before they moved overseas...

Again, I am a complete newb when it comes to gears, but I am cheap and have been reading for hours on end since this gear swap/8.8 install is killing most of my Jeep budget.

In my research I have also found most reviews claim the opposite- that the Motive gears are the quietest, Yukon a bit more so and superior the loudest...

Go figure.

Cheers!
~K

My Yukons, both sets are just as quiet as stock gears.
