I was an auto only guy for a while until my dad bought a yj, and i learned how to drive stick on that rig. It can get a little tiresome driving a stick especially in the city, but id choose the 5speed any day. More control and more fun on the trails and it is a little tricky n can be challenging wheelin on stick, but its just feeling and you get used to it.

I personally would love an ax15 in my 99 but i like the auto wheeling less focus on pedals and more control on focusing on what your doing order this for your auto i have it its alot of fun to drive http://www.radesignsproducts.com/Baja.html

I strongly suggest manual especially if you plan on going mudding many of my friends have had problems with automatics in deep mud and end up needing new transmission I don't think jeeps have this problem but either way its not hard to drive stick

but I'd still highly recommend the 5 speed jeep. it's a great experience and if you're not trying to crawl up steep rocks it'll be fine off road. once you've been driving stick long enough you dont even think about it. you dont even look at the tach you just listen to then engine when shifting. stick shift actually makes me pay attention to the road more and helps me focus on what I'm doing. keeps me out of trouble
