It's just a VIN #. Doesn't matter if you post it. I'd do a carfax report for you, but ive maxed out my refunds for this year. If someone is willing to do it for you, great. There's also forums out there that will issue free checks for you, although the response time may take a week. Just don't ever rush into a car purchase. Very bad idea. Take your time and don't worry about whether or not he sells the Jeep. Get all your ducks in a row and be sure this vehicle checks out. Carfax, although at times inaccurate and fails to have things recorded, will tell you many useful things and potential problems that a dealer or private seller may initially hide from you.
Anyway, I'm off to bed. 'Night.

just talked it over with him and heres what he said: (note that he is the son of the owner of an automotive shop that has been in buisness for 34 years) the lady who we fixed it for didnt have the 1400 bucks to pay for the repairs, so either she pays or has to hand over the title. or let the state handle it.
so he does have the title, but said he doesnt know about my 2500$ offer, might be to low because he is saying he can drop another 400 into it and sell it for 4k plus.
so what do you guys think i should do?

If he says he can drop another $400 in it and have it sell for a lot more then what he asking now then there is clearly something else wrong with this jeep. Just walk away man.

Jeep Built 2,884,172 of these. This is a complete mess that makes no sense. If this shop has been in business for 35 years, it means they haven't been caught if they're doing business like that. You don't need this headache. You don't even have a liscense yet, you have time.

Just walk away from this one. You can find jeeps for less than that that are in better running condition. Too much potential for failure with this one, and something with his story doesn't seem to add up. Just my .02

I found a 1993 Xj Great running and driving jeep good tires 4.0. I gave it hell for a year and sold it running good. Payed $1000 and it was in nashville tn. Look around older is better anyways in my opinion.

and the chance of finding an old one with a decent amount of miles is very slim, and ofcourse my parents are gonna be chipping in and there is no way in **** they are gonna buy me an old car with a lot of miles, big on safety.

I would pass on that 2000... it could have a cracked head...
I would check out this 1996 tho.. it has the better interor and is in the classic trim very nice look.. low miles for the year
http://memphis.craigslist.org/ctd/2332304011.html
it also has all power options.. and for safety even has a air bag... if you are a high schooler you want a 96-98 they seem to hold up the best and have all the safety features for parents
