this brings back alot of memories. I was leasing a dodge dakota 2wd and caught the off road bug. Since it was a lease I was not allowed to modify it. Well...i found a loophole I banged my head real hard on the roof while getting in the truck and got a huge bump that almost bled out. I went to my dealer and said, look I am getting beat up cuz this thing is so low and I'm tall. Can I lift it just a little? They didn't say yes but they didn't say no. So....a couple months later it was up 8" on 33's and had a rear locker. Yup, leased OFF ROAD vehicle
Try that with your dad and uncle. It's worth the little painful bump

I'm really going for a clean look and the last thing i want is rusted wheels, and i like the aluminum wheels alot better any way so i think its definitely worth the extra money thanks for all your help.

Hey man, you are in the same boat as me.. i was thinking about a Budget boost at most, but lately i have been thining more along the lines of 30" M/T's with as little trimming as possible (hopefully none) and some nice foglights up front w/roof rack. Then as i get more money later on (and for you get permission) a small lift, some aftermarket wheels w/ full size spare on detours tailbone.
As for the side moldings....krylon fusion in satin black and they will never fade again. You could paint em and put em back on with 3M adhesive tape...I left mine on teh vehicle and taped off the side moldings and fender flares within a week of buying it.

Remember to invest you money WISELY. Alot of people say go with steelies cuz they are cheap but they don't explain what happens later on. They rust and corrode over time and then eventually you end up replacing them. I'm not against steelies, heck i've owned three sets, but i've learned that going cheap isn't best for the long run. All three sets of my steelies started to rust, two were out of round after a couple gnarly trail trips. I won't be buying steelies anymore. I dislike a rusty appearance and that's just me. I run the stock 16" icons cuz they are nice lookin and I don't have to worry about them getting out of round or rusting up. My friend recently replaced his imitated beadlock steelies cuz they rusted up to the point where they were brown all the way around the outside. It was UGLY and he now runs aluminum. He said they were a waste of $200. Yeah you could sandblast em and repaint em but why do all this work for some cheap wheels when you could just buy good ones and never have to touch em up.
My suggestion is save and get what you REALLY like the first time.

The other advantage of steel wheels other than cost, is your backspacing options. You will have far more than with an aluminum wheel. That's one reason I chose my previous soft 8 wheels. Steelies look good and easy on the wallet, but the soft 8 (or the like) are way over done. I second guessed them when I put them on and I now have some Gambler (aluminum) wheels and quite pleased.

it's not very asthetically pleasing, but it does serve a couple of purposes.....getting that larger tire off the roof or off the floor of the cargo area and rear recovery.
The ony bumper he makes that looks decent is the front Crawler bumper. IMO.

I like steel rims...they're cheap and can take a beating off road. Everyone that sees them will think you're a hard core jeeper. The alloys definitely look cooler, but you'll never want to go wheeling with them. I recommend the steel.

I agree the rock crawler is the only decent looking one and since I'm going more for looks than any thing and that is more than i want to spend i am not going to buy from that company. I decided on a JC offroad bumper they are fairly inexpensive and look alot nicer. .... and the reason I'm not to worried about offroading with alloys is that i don't do very much of it, except for the beach. I don't think I'm going to crack an alloy on the beach. The look is what I am going for.
for now...
