Motor swap ideas ?
I'm pretty sure I blow my motor last night and thinking maybe it's time to upgrade
Worked 4.0L maybe bored a little over decked and higher the conpretion?
Ford 302,351?
Chevy motor?
Anyone have any good ideas on what's a nice swap easy bolt up with maybe just the change of a bellhousing or tranny not looking to change all the wires really or start shortening or lengthening the drive shaft
Iv got a 2000 Cheroke
3 inch lift
4.0
Aw-4 tranny (I know sucks it's auto)
Crysler 8.25 rear and a D30 front

I have a rebuilt 4.0 with some bolt ons. I'm thinking of throwing my 351 Windsor with a top end kit in it. (Trick flow track heat heads, Trick flow stg 1 cam Edelbrock vic jr intake with a Demon carb . I feel the 4.0 is a great motor and has never let me down. Even sucking in water, some time draining the cylinders out and it still runs great to this day. For hp/tq reasons, is why I wanna switch.
Do you have any upgrades done to your rears? It will play a big factor in breaking more stuff as I'm always breaking stuff and I have a semi built Dana 44 front axle and a built 8.8 explorer back axle...

Agreed
A 5.9 is capable of 2000hp, whether or not you still consider it a "diesel" engine at that point is up to you.
A 4BT with a single HY35 can put out more power than a stroked 4.2, and a 4BT with a aftermarket turbo, tuner, pipe and intake can easily out do any stroked 4.0.

Even a 4BT is out of place in a wheelin rig in my opinion. Way too much nose weight. I've seen diesels swapped into mud trucks before and it's about as effective as putting a snow plow on. Even just 50-100 lbs on the front end can have a huge impact on how a vehicle works.
Any small block would be really cool. 302 would be the lightest and still make plenty of power for a wheeler. You can easily make 350 fwhp with a mild 302 and easily 400+ if you spend the money on a 331 or 347 stroker.
I have the stock efi 302 out of my mustang sitting in the garage just begging to be put in my cherokee. Only thing that stops me is I still want to run 6 cyl classes at mud drags and hill climbs.
I was thinking Chevy 4.3 would be pretty cool. As bulletproof as a 350, still a 6cyl, nice and short so it can be set way back in the engine bay and they can make pretty decent power with Vortec heads and a mild cam.
Just my opinion.
