Wow, surprising how many people on here are in the same boat. This could be a sticky - the screwed up economy and how its negatively affected your wheeling

Chalk another one up - I got laid off about a month ago. Had big dreams of using some of our tax return on a lift and new tires for the rig. Now we (wife, baby and I) are living off of the return and unemployment benefits. So far I've applied for around 15 jobs, with only a couple call backs. One employer said they had nearly 100 applications for a project management position in just TWO DAYS! Moving to Canadia (or elsewhere) has crossed my mind several times

If only people cared half as much about the health and well being of our country as they do about the stupid oscars or charlie sheen, perhaps things would start to turn around.

Keep your head held high. Its time we start reminding people what this country is all about. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Well so far so good today. I think I might be safe. This really should be a sticky just so maybe people can get some frustration out over the crap this country is doing.

Side note: with everyone willing to go to Alaska or Canada we could all band together an just migrate as an xj colony lol. We could start a nationwide movement hahaha

I'm a marine engineer and I've been searching for a land job for three years... I really want to get off the boats and home to my young family. I can't help but feel dread at the direction our country is heading. So many qualified, hard working people are laid off its unheard of. Even in my indistry (we diliver patrolium from the refinaries to your local port.) Their are countless people on the beach. Five years ago you could sign on a boat with no experience and have steady work for as long as you wanted. Now its hopelless even for some of the skilled personell. I pray that this government reallizes the extent to which ordinary people are suffering. Politics aside, this runnaway spending and overtaxing is draining the life out of our great country. I believe we fought a revelution to expell a tyranical government. Perhaps its time to remind this tyranical government who has the power.

I feel ya man that's how it is in the ship building industry. Plenty of good people willing to work 60 hrs a week an they can't find anything cuz nobody is building boats even the navy. My day has progressed well tho. I was offered a chance to go to 2nd shift which would suck not being home in the evening but I'd have every morning with my kids to get them off to school an I could go look for work elsewhere everyday without being out of work. Looks like the lift has a home lol.

This country has gone down the tube tho. Most ship work is now being done in Brazil or Canada an its just not gonna come back cuz its cheaper there. I have never felt like moving to another country more than I have in the last year. Canada is really something I've looked into. It's certainly no worse than here an atleast they've been doing it that way for awhile.

Anyway yall helped me a lot as stupid as that sounds. It's good to talk to others having the same problem an not just hear about it on the news. This should definately go up to stickie or start a new thread with this content. It meant a lot to me an could mean a lot to others

I wish I had gotten offered 2nd shift. 2nd shift is better than no shift. So I guess you'll be starting on that lift this weekend Glad we could help you out a bit

Yea hopefully this weekend but probably next. I have some company coming in. Well I'm glad at a chance for any shift but it might only be a temporary stay of execution lol. Who knows whats gonna happen but I think I'm ok for now. An I can get ip every morning an go look for something else (what little there is) without missing any time or money so that'll be good.
