Yup same design. The 2000 will have a 29 spline 8.25 rear as long a it does not have abs and the d30 front. Low pinion though. People will say to stay away from them because they had a head problem and they are more prone to cracking but like anything it's not guaranteed. Mine has 185k miles and runs like a champ!

If it does have abs will it still be a 8.25? Does the d30 low pinion really matter when im only planning on lifting it 6.5" and 35s. It will never have larger than 35s and 6.5" lift. Sucks it has sealed hub bearing assembly but makes it a lil more convenient to engage 4wd without having to get out and engage the hubs.

It will affect the front driveline angle. When I had a t-case drop the cv angle was toothy and the shaft would bind. With a sye it seems ok but I just put together a high pinion front. They are direct swap and can mostly be had for under $100 anyway.

What all year model xjs came with an 8.25 rear end? Was it optional or standard? Come with towing package maybe?

Im still looking since i got now return call from the one i wanted to look at. Found another one, wrong color but will do. How come the xj section doesnt have a faq outlining the drivetrain options and what not? Would have saved me bugging everyone in here lol.

They came with the 8.25 from 95 96 I think. they had 27 spline shafts in the early ones, I think from 97 on they are mostly 29 spline if they have the 8.25. pretty much all 2000-2001 have 8.25, and will be 29 spline. 99 can go either way. some may also have the d44 too. which is good. Just stay away from the d35.
Google jeep axle id and there are a bunch of pics comparing axles. That way if you go to look at one, you can visually ID it.

91 and up had the 8.25, it was on all non-ABS models. 91-96 were 27 spline, 97 and up they are 29 spline. The D35 was the ABS axle. A factory D44 would only be in a 87-90 with a tow package, and are rare to find.
The 8.25 is easy to identify, its flat on the bottom, D35 is rounded.

Well picked up a 94 Cherokee Country Edition( whatever that is). 6.5" Rough country long arm, 35" swamper tsls,D30 front and 8.25 rear, 4.56s F&R, Front aussie locker, Rear is open(???), Rock slider, winch, and all the power options still work. So froma quick search i see there is only one locker for the 27spline 8.25, what gives.

Oh by the way i also have a spare ford 9"(rough shape tube needs some tlc but rebuilt chunk with 4.56s and a spool is in great shape). How do you go about shortening these axles?Links?
