Well you kinda just answered your question. If yall both have stock gears, yours is gonna be sluggish.

32x11.50? Vs a (basically) a 30.9.5? Yea he's probably got a bit more pep than you. Gear your axles and you can smoke em.

Why are you concerned about racing anyways? It's a Jeep. Tell him to follow the leader and see if the 235/70s keep up. Lol.

OP didn't mention what engine he and his friend have in their vehicles... the XJ comes with either a 2.5L 4-banger or a 4.0L inline 6... really no contest there. Especially in terms of torque. My XJ is the 4.0 version, 2-door, and RWD and while I understand that such a configuration is laughable to most people on this forum cause its pointless for off-road, it also means that my XJ hauls absolutely ridiculous amounts of tail (for a Jeep anyways).

V8 swap. And don't complain about my answer, you asked an exceptionally vague question.

Tire size and gears can make more difference than horsepower. That 88 might just have deeper gears than yours to go with the somewhat smaller tires. Hell mine has a V-8 under the hood and makes probably around 300 HP, but with 33" tires and 3.55 gears it's slow on takeoff. Top speed is a different dog though.
