I'm sure whatever you get will treat you just fine, but you probably won't love it as much as the jeep. My buddy used to have a 96 ram 2500 with a cummins and that thing was a tank. I loved that truck, but those are known to rust and have tranny problems.

If it weren't for Fords towing off all the broke down Chevy's littering the streets around here, the roads would be impassible! I've owned Ford trucks for 30 years. I've had one Chevy truck in that time frame (1999) and had to threaten a law suit to get my money back. That Chevy starting falling apart on day one. The Chevy may (at best) be a decent DD, but it can't handle any type of workload. My current Ford has 248,000 miles and runs/drives like new. My very first Ford truck and the two Ford trucks previous to the one I own now were all well over 300,000 miles and all still daily driven and worked hard at the times each were traded in. Now, let me finish my rant by stating that I love driving my XJ. It's not my workhorse, but its a great driver and off-road toy.
They are great working trucks.
I have had great experiences in my family with Chevy but that's all we have ever owned so I'm partial to them

So uh.
What's the budget and what do you want/need? Fuel economy? 4 doors? 4x4?
Sort of important. "Truck" is a pretty big category. I fancy a Brockway or Freightshaker with a Detroit myself, but those won't fit through the drivethru.
PS Dodge blows

Get an old J-series truck. Those are bad ***!
People will argue over which brand's truck is the best til the cows come home. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any relatively modern truck.
(Unless it's a Nissan.)

I'll throw my two cents in. Stay away from 04-08 f150. Those motors have all kinds of little issues that turn into big headaches and they don't make much horsepower. Stay away from 03-07 classic GM trucks. Go open and close the door on a few and listen and that will tell you all you need to hear. Dodge is notorious for electrical gremlins but I believe they have a solid drive train. Chevy drive train is very solid as well I believe. That was my take when I was looking at trucks. Oh and if you get a 97-03 f150 plan on putting a new front end under it. They are horrendously under built. When you are in parking lots look at the front tires on those trucks. Nearly all will have bad wear patterns.

My friend's Ram Cummins 2500 has around 480k miles on it, other than a new clutch and some fuel pump issues, his has been rock solid. 4:88 gears to tow up the switchbacks without skipping a beat.
I <3 the 6bt, if I could afford a nice truck it would probably be a Ram 2500.
I think all American cars have ****ty electrical systems, but that might just be me.

If you get a cummins, make sure to get a 12 valve. They last forever, are all mechanical, and are laughably easy to make power out of. Just fix the "killer dowel pin," grind the fuel plate down, turn some screws, put a BHAF and a straight pipe on it, and you're good to go!
