Please don´t put a gm motor in the jeep. That wil just ruin the car. As it all ready with the 2.8. 318 or 360 under the hood. Keep it AMC all the way baby 302 or 351 is ok to The 4.0 engine is Awery good engine. So if you find a whole cherokee that is bad condition but has a great motor and tranny you should buy it and use the engine and all the wire harness. You wil need all the harness to make it work properly. At least a friend had to do that in a wrangler he had.

you should buy a new jeep the 2.8 is garbage at least mine was and from what i've heard you have to cut the firewall back to fit the 4.0 and more than likely anything else.anything bigger than a 4.0 you'll have to change axles and the transmission probably a ax5 so that wouldn't hold up. i would scrap it and buy a different one that's what i did although it did do amazing at mudding but couldn't go 55

Mr leaky will not be junked!!!! He has an emotional attachment to the Jeep so finding a better motor will be the best bet... and we on CF will answer any questions he has to do so or to keep the 2.8 liter running...
btw we want to see pictures

where there's a willl, there's a way. The straight 6 is the best engine for it if you can pull it off. Otherwise, it's followed closely by a newer ls engine out of a chevy truck. Haters gonna hate, but while the ford boys go rock their aluminum and plastic blocks, it'd be wise to stick with the cast iron block 6 bolt main chevy, unless of course you can swing the legendary jeep straight 6

Default swap

Well I have doing the 3.4l swap from what I have read its gonna be the best for my budget with the idea of less mods (welding and relocating). Im still not sure of the type of 3.4l i need and I want to get rid of the carb and can I use a dohc 3.4l? Does it matter if if came from a fwd or rwd car? I belive i have the np207 trans but not sure just yet if so can I swap it out for the np 242? Im getting ready to start the mods on Mr. Leaky...Any help would be a great help and maybe I can add some of yall to my friends list if thats ok with yall...As Im still very new to the 4x4 world much less the jeep world aswell.

I dunno if painless makes alot of wiring harnesses for the xj, but it's worth contacting them if you plan on running EFI. EFI is better for wheeling anyway, no float bowls to worry about in off camber situations. I'm not real sure which 3.4's you need to be looking for.
