Didn't end there though, as if introducing the "Liberty" after a massive terrorist event wasn't "patriotic" enough they sold a vehicle named "Patriot".
Yes sir. That my theory why it was called liberty.

Its always been Cherokee and grand Cherokee. Wagoneer and grand Wagoneer. Well 2014 they'll be the Cherokee and grand Cherokee. Full sized suv and cross over suv, formerly mid sized suv but we all know those dontt exist no more.

Thankfully they at least killing the patriot and that other abomination

From my understanding of what I read on it, Chrysler's original plan was to replace the XJ with the KJ outside of the North-American market but continue to produce the XJ alongside the KJ for at least a few years (the XJ was still selling well at this point), likely either until the discontinuation of the WJ in '04 or the discontinuation of the 4.0L I6 and TJ in 06' depending on sales which was the reason for the different name. However when Daimler took over they did not want to keep producing what they saw as an "outdated" vehicle (even tough the XJ was still selling well and both the R&D and tooling had been paid for many years earlier so it cost little to produce) so the XJ was discontinued when the KJ came out but the "Liberty" name stuck.

Sadly Chrysler wanted to kill the xj. They knew it wouldn't last. The shape, the age of the name. Solid front axles. My only wish is they kept the hp 30 in all xjs lol

Since we've been having our liberties systematically stripped away little by little since 9/11, I'd say the name Cherokee is more patriotic than Liberty, Cherokee Indians were in this country long before we were.

lol Great idea for a political commentary. Photo of a Cherokee driving a Jeep Liberty to a grocery store... Man wouldn't eat without his Liberty!

I've always rolled my eyes at how Jeep was trying to show everyone how pro USA they were with the names "Liberty" and "Patriot" (not that there's anything wrong with being patriotic).

What's Jeep going to name the next new models?

The Jeep Freedom? The Jeep America? The Jeep Democracy?

The next jeep model will be the all new 2015 jeep freedom liberties thunder chief which will be a fiat based vehicle. Weight half of an xj which a hidden winch and tow hooks but not to worry cause when you use it to scale the dividers at the mall for that best spot, during the holidays, and you high center, you can just pick it up and move it. Hmmm, not sure if a tire carrier and steel bumpers will weight it down too much. And the 26s you put on it will handle potholes like its Moab
