Hey everyone. Any initial thoughts on this one? What are the top things I need to check when looking at these at the dealership/private party?

Agree with Twisted, Thats a good looking XJ, but very expensive.

I just bought mine with 86,000 miles for $1400 off of the original owner. Craigslist.

It'll cost me a few bucks to safety, but keep your eyes out for a better deal.

I've seen '96 and '99 called the best. Apparently there were a couple wiring issues on the '97. Not sure why the '98 isn't on the list. I've also seen it said that any xj is better than no xj.

Lol, unless said XJ is a $6,250 stocker, then I'd have to vote "no XJ".

Automotive dealerships intentionally set the price high so the vehicle must be financed hopefully by them. They make big profit dollars through finance & insurance (credit life, GAP, extended warranties, etc).
Plus seats have been throughly fatazzed, so pass.

Any year from 91-99 in my opinion. I believe some 91s were still renix and some weren't and I Dont care for the renix.

The renix is ok but the later 4.0 is better.

they exist for no reason other than to make a profit. I avoid them like the plague.

Like this one. 5k seems steep for something that's missing a fender and has a crack in the windshield (and probably the cylinder head). Yeah it has leather and heated seats, but does that really make it worth 5k? Seems like a 3-3.5k Jeep tops.

I'd pay 5k for that if the worst of it was some minor paint issues.
