Okay so I bought my xj about 9-10 months ago and before I bought it the sound system never really worked. My driver door is/was the only speaker still working, and from what I read the front speakers are usually the first ones to go. Soooo, I wanted to ask for some help/guidance on what to do to check/figure out why my speakers will not work. I love my jeep but no music when driving BLOWS.
Thanks, Moose.
Thanks, Moose.

I'd check for cracked wires. I put in new door speakers and the passenger side wasn't working. Ended up finding a cracked wire but it was nothing a little liquid electrical tape didn't fix.

Going from personal experience, if it has an aftermarket radio, chances are the pervious owner cut the wires up to ghetto install the radio and messed up the speaker wires. Or maybe had an amplifier installed and again, messed up wires. For the fronts, I believe it's because of where the wires go into the door through the rubber boot. The constant repeated opening and closing of the door eventually wears them out. My driver front had that happen, so I just put in all new wires for all four

The fact that none of them work definitely make me think it has to do with the plug at the radio. Pull that sucker out and look at it for awhile till it works. You know, talk dirty to it and stuff..

Go to Walmart and buy a new modern radio that will play CDs and MP3s, get new speakers, speaker wire, a plug kit so you don't hack up the factory wiring, and a dash kit depending on what year your XJ is. Problem solved for about 150 bucks.
