I hate to say this but I would personally go for the 1998 cherokee... IMHO I don't like the cherokees older then 1991... For some reasons. A lot of them came with the weak dana 35 rear end, you have a vacuum disconnect on your front dana 30 axle. You may have a pressure bottle radiator, you have the weaker 4.0L engine if you have the 4.0L in it.. The high outputs didn't come out until I think 1992.
The 98 will come with updated interior, should come with the chrysler 8.25 29 spline rear end which can hold 33's very well. has a stronger dana 30 in the front, and the motor has more power. 98 and 99 is the high output engine as well.
I have a cherokee builder book that goes through all the downfalls earlioer then 92 cherokee's had.

Glad you decided to keep the 89. If you tried to sell an 89 with 300k, you would seriously get $700 or $800 for it, tops. You know how it runs, so run that thing into the ground!

Just when i was so sure
Someone comes up with a ton of awesome reasons why i should get a newer one..... Loving more than one XJ at a time is hard on the heart.
