Opinions on this Cherokee
I am new to the Cherokee scene, was into Hondas for years but now that I am older my interests have changed. Mainly looking for something that will be safe for my 5 year old to be in. Also be good for around town and to head out to the woods for hunting and to hit up some logging roads to get a feel of the area.
I am debating whether to drive south a couple of hours to check this 1990 Cherokee out, its in my price range and everything local or north of me costs more and has higher miles.
This is what the person on craigslist posted:
90 jeep cherokee - $1850
This jeep is a reliable little 4x4 , it has a clean title , good tags , good glass and rubber it also has a new battery with a 1 year warranty . It has 154K miles on it , it has a straight 6 , automatic and fun to take off road the inside is clean but missing the headliner.
Now for some pics.
What you guys think? They are pretty firm on getting $1800 so they can buy a minivan to accomadate all those girls. They did tell me that the AC needs to be recharged which isnt to big of a deal. The interior can use a cleaning which is easy. Not a fan of the color matched flares, I am guessing they didn't take them off when they sprayed it.

Just be sure to do a complete inspection on the vehicle.

If the compressor still turns it should still be good. I'd vacuum the AC and get a new A/C in line filter. Put some dye in it and freon check for leaks no leaks then its good to go.

If you don't get in a hurry there are better deals. I'm in socal and bro's friend has a 90 for $750 he sez he would take $600. He sez it's 4x4, straight, factory alloy rims with holes. I found a person that went to auctions and he would buy for you after confirming if it's what I wanted. Anyway I got a 99 with 40k on it 7 years ago for $4,500 with his fee. Blue book 10k. The secrete is to have the cash and take advantage of somebodies misfortune, I think xjs have gone up in value because of cash 4 clunkers. I bought my 89 with 50k on it for $1800 in 94. It's just what I think hold off.

I threw-up in my mouth when I saw the pink florals in the back seat!

Here in Oregon its a lil different price wise, I have been looking since Dec. Every once in awhile you will find a deal in Portland, but they are snapped up asap. Usually this same Cherokee would be listed for at least 2500 to 2800 if not 3k. Part of the reason it is so cheap is that it is by the OR/CA border.
My thought is if after a bit I don't like it sell after I get some more money. We really need a second vehicle right now and the market isn't the greatest.

Yeah after looking on craigslist for months it seems that most of the newer Cherokees are going for 3-5k with almost 200k miles on them. I just want something that will have no problems if I get an internship this summer for any travel I will need to do. Plus get me out to the woods finally since we're over a week into turkey season.

I am also not a fan of the kid seats, if I had a girl I would of chose something a lil different. I might be a lil biased since my son has had Recaro kids seat and we are a big fan of it.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal but if you can wait I would get a 92-99 cherokee. These have a better motor than the 91 and older with less electrical wires everywhere. The 00-01 have had many problems with the heads cracking on them. Like someone said before, if it's maintained properly should have no problems. I have 191k on a 96 and runs perfect. Good Luck
