Opinions on goodyear wrangler radials?

Agreed... we all use our Jeeps for slightly different duty. So whatever does the trick for what we need and/or can afford at the time a new set of shoes is needed. And a set of those will definitely give a nicer, more comfortable ride....and with that pattern, maybe even a little better mpg.
And with this thread... I'm still impressed with the Wranglers for being a crap tire that most agree that they are.
I just finished a near 1000 mile one way road (moving) trip with them.. and so far I've had them in dry, wet, snow, sand, dirt, high winds, pretty much everything except mud... and they've handled quite well for a "crap" tire. I had the XJ loaded down with as much as I could fit in it... (which was a decent amount)... and even in spite of the high winds, bad weather at times, she still averaged 21 mpg at 70-75mph on the highways. Makes me think I'm going to run these puppies until I start the suspension mods.

Yeah... I remember that post. Just sayin' that all the stuff I've put them through so far doesn't completely have me wanting to pull my own hair out. At least not at this point. lol

Well $$$ aside... I used BFG A/T's for years on my 4x4s (which I really liked). But most recent comparison was a General Tire model that was put on my Tacoma 4x4 by the trusted Toyota dealer I purchased it from. I don't recall the tire model, just brand.
The tread pattern looked like they tried to copy the BFG A/T as close as possible. But they were, in my opinion, an even harder compound than what the Wranglers are. Because they absolutely sucked a bag of dirty, slimy, river rocks!
They slid on everything... including dry pavement if I wasn't being careful.
Now while the Wranglers may be a harder compound... they actually handle better than those General POS's that "looked" like a nice A/T tire.

so jelly on that mpg atm i averaged 11 on the highway so i need to get that sorted. New exhaust and 02 sensors should fix it i hope if not then eh new exhaust that wont fall down lol. Then a 4 hole injector upgrade because i think i damaged my injectors as when i got it on the road i ran alot of sea foam through it. But yes VERY comfy tires i took it on a joy ride last night and then in the middle in a heavy rain storm and they handled like a dream

your more then likely talking about the general grabber at2, and if you are, my customers, members of this board, and myself severely disagree with you hhaaha...the grabber is a top 3 all terrain up there with the bfg and Cooper. It is a high performer and my customers give it absolutely rave reviews. In my personal use with it, I loved them haha..It also gets recommended quite often on this forum when people are looking for recommendations on a tire.....Not sure I trust your tire evaluation

I may not be a tire expert... but I've been around the block enough times to know better than that. lmao.
Pardon my French... but I know the General brand one had to be their bottom of the barrel cheap-*** tire. The tread wasn't exactly like the BFG... but it somewhat reminded me that direction. But man was it a hard compound tire. If I let the clutch out any faster than an old lady on her way to bingo... it would chirp the tires on dry pavement. So that's probably why these Wranglers feel like a step up from those.
I wish I had a quality tire like BFG's or the Ironmans..... but these puppies are doing the trick for what I need in the meantime.

You must be talking about the general grabber stx. Some people come back because they are so loud and somewhat cheap. And yeah that is highway mpg in city its closer to 5 or 6 from ym last post its getting worse lol. But it seems what some tires are on make a difference. Different weights and different patterns like these tires some people hate them as they said they always chirped and were slippery while others say they handle great and no issues so seems the application theyre used for will differ.
Shockingly everyone at walmart seems to love the goodyear wrangler sr-a tires alot of trucks come in and many made it well over 50k miles with a truck coming in wanting another set after putting 95k miles on a set and they werent even down to the wear bars.

As for the tires... no... I know they were not even as good as the grabber series. They were pos ones. I wouldn't be mean enough to put those on my closest enemy's ride. lol.
However... the tread pattern looked a lot like these:

All of our driving is long highway miles. It's 75 miles one way to town for groceries. If I keep it right at 65 and NOT use the cruise, loaded or unloaded I get 20 to 22 depending on how hot or cold it is outside.

Same goes for my old 79 Wagoneer I had last time I lived in AZ. It didn't matter whether it was just me... or if I was towing a boat or trailer... that 360 got the same exact mileage regardless. And that 360 would tow it like it wasn't even there. Wish I still had that ole' tank.

You know it's funny you mention that you get the same mpg roughly... regardless of loaded or unloaded.
