And that's what those old boats were designed for. You have to imagine that when they were made there were very few paved roads in this country. They were designed to ride nice on washboard dirt and gravel roads. And THEY DO. lol

I hate washboard basically hit it at any speed and dingled my nuts around to the point i had to stop and wait for them to quit aching as washboard is kinda hard to find and rare to encounter

Here neither! High pressure mono tube shocks are your friend.

LOL. No kidding. My XJ is the roughest riding vehicle I've owned. Even my '67 Bronco feels like a Cadillac in comparison. I still love the XJ, but a light chassis doesn't really pair well with stiff, live-axle suspension over pavement irregularities.

My wife and I both prefer manual transmissions and a more "mechanical" feel to our vehicles for the feedback they give for day-to-day driving, but I usually keep one newer vehicle around mostly just for long highway trip comfort. Currently that's a 2012 Focus, and I have to admit that it sure is nice and relaxing driving something more "refined" like that once in a while. I'm not big on "boats" though--I like to feel like I'm driving the car rather than "coaxing" it one direction or the other. LOL

If your XJ rides too rough you either have too stiff of springs or way too aggressive shocks. Sadly many lift kits come with springs that are way too stiff or the wrong shocks. You can have a Cadillac ride in an XJ (or ANY Jeep), it just takes research to get the right springs and shocks. Proper suspension action has nothing to do with vehicle size or weight, it is all about having the right components for the application.

It doesn't ride too rough, just rougher than anything else I've owned. I could swap out my Bilsteins and make it more comfortable on the road, but I really like the control they give off-road, so I'll stick with them. The HD Crown leaf springs are also stiffer than OEM, but they carry a much greater load so I stick with them as well. These are the trade-offs. I pieced my suspension together and it works very well for my all-around uses of daily driver, trailer towing and off-road. No kits here. Had I chosen my suspension components for a more specific duty, e.g. off-road only or DD only, and not wanted more load-carrying ability, I would have have chosen differently.

Going to a stiffer suspension that has more control and load carrying ability is going to make more difference in ride quality on a light-bodied vehicle than it will on a heavier one, just because the ratio of additional load to vehicle weight is lower with a lighter vehicle than with a heavier one. Think about it--if you put 400 lbs in the back of a light vehicle like an XJ, you will certainly notice it more than, say, a 1/2 ton pickup. Likewise, the additional load-carrying ability of a 1-ton pickup over a 1/2-ton pickup causes the 1-ton to ride much rougher unloaded for the same reason.

Ill admit tho my xj even tho the suspension is worn on the highways and such when it isnt vibrating is a very comfy ride to the point i almost dozed off at one point lol but for me im planning on my next car since i work at walfart tle i get to try out dozens of cars and for me for the winner of comfort i found the honda accord gen 9 and gen 10 seats are so frickin comfy no matter the options but ill get the touring version, Ford Taurus the newer big *** ones those are very comfy and quite nimble for the size and the top ride for comfort that always takes me by surprise is an acura tsx no matter what i get in a seat of those and i just enjoy them
