hard to tell by the pics, but it looks like it might be a d60 front.
we'd need a better pic of the whole axle from the front.

That's a 60 front.

Start talking that guy down.

Worth the effort to part out and re-sell or use the goodies.

Thanks!
It's hard to shoot a pic from the front because of the snowplow. It must have the Snow fighter package or one of those other heavy duty packages mentioned then if it's a Dana 60! Cool!
By the way it has disk brakes just in case they are too greasy to see!
He forgot the pic of the tranny and TC but hey at least he got the axel!

I will see what I can talk him down to! Maybe I'll plow with it... Would be a lot warmer than sitting on the John Deere blowing snow in my face!

Bye the way is this a highly desireable axel then?

Thanks all!
Mike

Here are a few more pics...

You're spelling like a Noob here

Yes ... very sought after axle. It's a HP D60. Stronger ring gear, better driveline angles than the standard D60. Has a *slightly* weaker knuckle design --- but nothing to worry about unless you're planning on 42s or something.

People sell them anywhere between 900 and 1400 dollars.

Why are you still posting? Start negotiating and wire the money.

Oh .... and I'll offer you $451 for that axle.

That much for just the Front Axel?
Wow, that's a good find then.
The only bad thing is with me one thing leads to another and once I have those axels in my posession I can already see what will happen. I'd be looking for a full framed something or other with a V8 to put these under!
Next thing you know I'd have another project going!

Heck for that matter I could make that beast into a nice ride. Always wanted a Fire Truck!

I can see this coming!
I'd better start laying the hints out to my Wife... Problem is she's getting harder to fool the older she gets!
LOL
Thanks
Mike

If I was you I would get it to sell the or use the axles and part the rest out. But you do not need a frame to have those axles and V8!

What do you think I should offer him?
I was thinking about the weight of that front axel... almost 600# according to people in this post. That's alot of weight. My frame is stiffened all the way from the rear spring mount to the front bumper and I was worrying about the weight. Can you imagine 38's and a 600# axel in the front and rear? I'd have to do one of those LS-1 corvette engine swaps to keep up with traffic. That would be fun though!
Mike
Go to this link... A Cherokee with the front end ripped off being pulled out.

Yep, I agree. The D60's front and rear (verified they are) would be a little overkill for my purposes. It would seem like the weight of the axels alone wouldn't be too good for a unibody Cherokee. I'm sure there are people that do that but it's not going to be me.
I did make the guy an offer for the truck and he said he'd think about it.
I'm in Michigan so I'm getting tired of sitting on my tractor freezing while I plow the snow.
If I end up getting this truck I will use it as a plow truck until something else comes to mind. I like the old Chevy full sized Blazers and Broncos so I might lean towards a full framed truck like that. I've been checking Craigslist down south just to see what I can find... Plenty of rust free ones down there.
On another note, I'm working a deal with a guy that has an older Gehl Skid Steer... The weight of that and my trailer would be over 6000#, so the Cherokee isn't going to cut it towing that.
I'll have to call the guy back with the plow truck sometime soon and see what it will take to get it...
That's where I'm at... thanks for checking...

Default Look what showed up in my Driveway today!

Well, I finally worked a deal for the 1978 Ford F250 with Snowfighter package.
Or rather I worked a deal for a paired set of Dana 60's and got a plow truck too!
Anyway... I just drove it home 150 miles and the oil level is where it was before I left. Pretty happy about that. I didn't know what to expect so I had oil, Antifreeze, 90 weight and tools with me.
I'll be darned but the Truck drove straight. Two fingers on the wheel. Never got hot... Leaked some oil around the seals here and there but not too bad considering it was running 2500 RPM's at 58mph.
I'm going to powerwash it tomorrow and see what I can read off the axel tags and so on.

Power washed the truck over the weekend. Pulled the numbers off the tag on the front axel and compared them to Pirate4x4.com's D60 info.

Ratio: 4:10
Internal lock outs
Gears: Reverse cut
Pinion: high pinion
BOM # 610023 6
Inner shaft splines: 35
Stub shaft splines: 30
Dual piston caliper disk brakes
Diff: Open

Funny Joe!
It has the NP205 TC and I'm still working on the trans ID. It's either a T-18 or T-19 as you previously stated...
My Wife wanted to drive it the other day... Being a little tricky to shift (especially for a 4'11" person) I started thinking!
Sooooo....
Not wanting to dissapoint my Wife....I called a guy on Craigslist who has a Mid 70's F250 with C6 and built 460 for a donor truck. It's a 2 wheel drive and has a D60 rear axel. What do you think about converting this truck to an automatic?

It's just an opinion, but I wouldn't covert it.

Get her these:

I'm pretty sure it's a T19 .... do you need to double clutch 1st gear ? If not ... it's a T19 (has synchros). If you do ... it's most likely a T18. Remove the interior trans tunnel cover. The numbers you need are cast right into the top of the shift tower.

In all seriousness ... you can probably do a bit of metal working to move the bench forward for her. She might still have trouble seeing past the lines of the truck, but she will at least be able to reach the pedals. I've seen some folks cut/reweld the angles for the brake/clutch pedal as well.
