That's what I figured. I do like the idea of bed lining my arms though.. Since I'm really considering making my own long arms, so I'd need some additional protection. And bed liner comes in red, so it'll match!

Keeps them from wearing down and fading a little better. Gunu be getting dirt and mud and washings. If its not something permanent like powder coating then give it a coat. 3 bucks

I just did my coils and shocks with Rustoleum Pro, prime and paint. Then some clear coat from Rustoleum as well. I don't know if I'd recommend it. Next time I will be powdercoating everything that is colored and everything that is black will be Raptor Lined. I think it turned out pretty well but I don't think the Rustoleum pro will last very long.



Either way, make sure you are prepping properly. Your paint job is only as good as your prep job.

Yeah, but you guys don't get the salt that we do up here in Chicago. Either way I did a few coats of clear on both so we will see what happens.

It's thicker and made to take impact so it's going to wear less than paint will. I've never used it on coil springs, but I don't imagine it would be any worse than paint.


Why? It's rubbery enough to flex and it's not going to stiffen the springs by any noticeable amount.

Ive used rustoleum on a number of things and i love it. I did the underbody of a camaro with it and while working on another part with a grinder with a flap disk i accidentily hit it and it hardly made a mark on it. Also ive used it on bumpers ive made with no primer at all and it sticks great everytime. Just make sure its completely dry between coats.as far as prep on freshly painted or coated parts i always use a 600 or 800 wet paper because you have way less sanding marks. It really just needs a quick scrub on the fresh stuff. The only thing negative i can say is the color fades when washed a lot or in the sun. On my own jeep i repaint my bumper completely every 4 or 5 months or so because i use it as an example of my work

Go to your local paint shop. And ask for a quart of two part Urethane Enamel.

So I just put this text decal on my bumper, the letters are raised and could be pretty easy to remove a certain section of the decal and make it look silly. Is there a clear coating spray I could put over this to hopefully prevent it or make it harder to peel off?


And could I use that same spray on the coils?

You can spray a clear coat over it but you might want to consider doing the whole bumper because it may make the area that you sprayed shinier than the rest of the bumper.

If you sprayed the bumper white where the decal goes, placed the sticker, then painted the entire bumper black you could remove the decal and it would've been painted into your bumper so you wouldn't have to worry about the decal peeling or anything. Plus then you could clear coat the entire thing and be done.

If it gets peeled off, I'm going to get a stencil made, and paint it onto the bumper. I'll look into clear coating the entire bumper. What if I tape off the surrounding area, so it's just the sticker, would that look a bit better?

That would work as long as you have a few cm around the lettering for the clear to seal the corners. It will probably still have some shiny-ness to it, but I'm sure it would seal it a bit more. Worth a shot!

I picked up some Rust-oleum clear coat, decided to just spray the decal, see how it comes out. Jeep is usually too dirty to notice the difference between shiny/not lol. I just hope this clear coat protects the coils. I did two coats yesterday, I'm thinking of just putting a coat or two on them now and hope for the best.

If you bough the same clear as me it takes about 7 days to fully cure. Just keep that in mind.
