I was thinking about buying one of these now, but all the ones I see for sale near me are a little too rusted.
So I'm looking far away. I can always have it shipped or drive it back.
I seen one 1998 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 5.9 @ $3200.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
fuel: gas
title status: clean
transmission: automatic
Limited 5.9, A/T, All Power, Heated Leather, Sun/Moon Roof, Tow Package, 220K, But Mostly Highway, 2nd Owner, Since 2001, Dealer serviced. Never Wrecked, Never Off Roaded Serious Inq. Scammers, Dont Bother. Cash Only

It looks great but how does this engin fair with higher milage on it.?

FYI, you're probably gonna want to scrape that threeper sticker off. Especially if it's for your daughter.

Danny just depends how well its been taken care of.If its been used and abused then its not worth buying. But if they have a maintenance record book then i would buy anything with high miles.

I don't like them either...
Luckily, the PO still had the OEM tails...
Went to put them on, and daughter likes the aftermarket ones...
(Go Figure)
So I'll just wait until a light goes out to make up an excuse that they need to be swapped back to the originals...

Probably going to stop and pick up all new front brakes on my way home from the golf course

So got a lot done on the 5.9 today...
Even made my 14 yr old son help me, as he wants a ZJ now too!!
Changed the oil.. (also reset VIC to default at 3500 miles)
Replaced air filter..
Some new wiper blades...
Filled both front & rear diffs..
Heated seats aren't working, so I'll probably have to address that next weekend...
I had the same problem in a CTS-V I had a while back...
Guessing it's a wiring issue...??

Will be ordering front brakes this week (rotors & pads)
Any suggestions?

Suggestions:
On the tail lights - throw the stock ones back on and light the "euro" ones on fire. Say it was an electrical fire or that the jeep's immune system rejected them. She'll get over it over a short amount of time.

Change the trans fluid and t-case fluid too. Probably flush clean brake fluid through when you do the brakes. Power steering fluid too. Grease up the front end every oil change

Usual routine whenever you get a used car - flush all fluids, tune-up ignition system, clean the throttle body, fix everything that is broken, inspect everything since it is for your daughter, consider cleaning electrical connectors and grounds in engine bay. Make sure the steering linkages and tie-rod ends are in good shape. Same for the shocks and other suspension components (bushings included).
Full detail of course before winter (some sort of long-ish lasting wax. I use Collinite).

EDIT:
Consider replacing the headlights with brighter options (probably a relay harness + new housings that aren't so faded).

And spray paint those windshield wiper arms too. Takes like 30 seconds to take them off and makes a huge difference.

Double Edit:
And check the parking brake hardware when you are working on the brakes (in the rear). The shoes like to disintegrate. And coat the parking brake lever arm with anti-seize if it will see salty roads so it doesn't rust together.

Thanks for all the ideas!
I did plan to slowly tackle many of the things you mentioned with my boy...
Headlights were going to be ordered this week already..
PO installed some sort of HID set up... (will be removing that most likely)
All in all... This 5.9 so far seems to have been treated VERY well

Just for an update on the 5.9....
So we have had it now for a bit..
Still haven't done the brakes, as they aren't too bad...
Fixed the "coolant" problem with a JY VIC...
Put some cheap eBay Headlights in it for now... Eventually I will either go e-code, or modify a set with aftermarket HID housings...

Heat isn't the warmest, so going to pull out the blend door actuator tomorrow & open it up..
Will probably back flush heater core as well...

My biggest problem as of now....
Bought a Compustar T11 Pro Remote Start with security for my daughter for X-Mas...
Local shop won't install it (or any other) without the DEI 445t...
Don't suppose anyone has one laying around???

I did get to drive it around tonight to go get dinner for the family
Wanted to make sure the VIC didn't start beeping again, as well as test it out in the fresh snow...
I'm so jealous... I like driving the 5.9 more than my Superduty!!!
