Smile Price for Replacing Motor Mounts

I have a 2004 Jeep Cherokee with over 100,000 miles on it. I've been told by an automotive shop that the motor mounts will soon need to be replaced. From what I've seen on this forum, it looks like this is to be expected. They're quoting approx $900 to do it - just wondering if that sounds reasonable, as I've never had to have this done with a vehicle before. (I'm not even remotely a mechanic so for me to do the work myself is not an option.) Thanks, Everyone!

For that price buy the tools/motor mounts, get a YouTube account, watch, learn, and do it yourself.

2004 Cherokee sounds like a European model. Got a photo of it?

Or its a Grand Cherokee.
Regardless, the price sounds very high.
Suggest getting at least 2 more quotes from other shops. You may not even need mounts.

You're correct - it's a Grand Cherokee - Columbia Edition (2004). Thanks for your advice! I will do that.

Default Thank you!

A huge thanks to everyone who responded - sounds like $900 is pretty far off the mark, based on what everyone is saying. I will check out quotes from other places and figure out what to do from there. So glad I found this forum! Thanks again!!!

You can get all 3 mounts for around a $100...I'm sure if you shop around, you could find them cheaper. I am assuming you have the 4.7 litre v8?

$800 is a hell of a labor cost...

No kidding, im figuring a shop with all the requiered tools could knock a job like this off in 2 hours so their charging quite a bit for labor considering their going to throw in some OEM motormounts.

Search for "(your city name) auto repair" or "(your city name) mechanic" on Google, then read the reviews. Seems like every city has a small pop-and-son type garage where the guys do good work but charge reasonable prices for parts and labor. It won't be all clean and shiny like the chain stores and may not even have a waiting room. They'll have a website that looks like it was put together by the guy's cousin in high school. They may not answer the phone if they're out working on cars when you call. You may just have to drop by and discuss it in person while standing in the garage. But this is usually where you're going to find good work for a reasonable price.

Just read a bunch of reviews. You'll start to see a pattern that will point you to the right places to call for quotes.

Also, ask if there's a difference in price if you pay cash. Small shops usually prefer cash over credit cards.
