*******es.
Could be the reporter called it a V6 not knowing or understanding the difference between a v and an i.

Reporters typically don't say stuff and claim it came from a source..
Possible yes..
Chrysler has prolly fired all the jeep people anyways..they probably don't know what an i6 is lol.

Thanks for posting the article. After reading, I posted my comment.

This thing is an abomination to the Jeep name and brand. I have owned several and this piece of garbage might appeal to Mr. and Mrs. Smith with their 1.5 kids and yappy little dog, but not to anyone who considers themselves a true Jeeper.

Nuff said....

I own my xj..and a commander.

Do not get me wrong..I like the commander (aside from its 14mpg)..it's comfy, got some spunk, has tons of room, looks nice, and will get me to where I want to pitch a tent.

I guess the real question here is which would you choose if you were forced to? I know my answer, lol

They said in the article that they needed a more car like vehicle to compete with other companies. Well what is the compass or the patriot?

+1 to this. There's no reason to bring the Cherokee name into it.

This is where we started:

NOT a pavement princess. NOT a luxury car. Aimed at yuppies? I guess - but yuppies that live IN THE WOODS AT THE END OF A TRAIL. It's pretty obvious that this is positioned in a similar market as pickup trucks.

Here's where we ended up 10 years later:

Note the first point. Now no longer aimed at the pickup crowd, but leads with offroad awards and is targeted around adventure in the woods.

Even in foreign markets the XJ was an American icon:

So what the hell is Fiat/Chrysler doing putting the "Cherokee" name on a vehicle that has nothing to do with the brand?

What about when jeep introduced the Comanche? Granted mid size pick ups are almost dead but that is what the cherokee name was, a SUV and a p/u. I've said before, they shouldve at least killed the patriot name, gave it solid axles, and give it square headlights, that would be more acceptable then this compass with a new body

*******es.
The original Cherokees DID have a V6 in them, and kudos on your email to her, but Jeep does not care about our little niche, they're building Jeeps for the masses, (Namely mall crawlers for mommy and daddy and junior).

I honestly think they would of been better off skipping this experiment and putting out a damn truck. People have been begging for jeep to bring a truck back into its lineup, but nope, gotta keep ram the home of the trucks. Don't understand the need to put the name jeep on this crossover junker, dodge or Chrysler would of been a better home for it.

It has automatic parallel parking?!?

They've built it for Sally Housecoat and Holly Housewife to get groceries in.

they shouldve kept the basic XJ design, updated it a bit but not real drastically, kept the solid axles, and put the 3.6 pentastar engine in it. i would buy that.

Yep. Seems like the "modern" Jeep buyer is most commonly Sally Soccermom who wants a Jeep because of its legendary name and adverse-weather handling abilities that will enable her to get her kids to soccer practice safely, but doesn't want to sacrifice creature comforts and a soft, cushy ride. Then to throw salt into the wound, you have Sally Soccermoms who are also politicians who want all vehicles by default to have the fuel efficiency and safety features of a Toyota Prius.

Hence, we now live in a world full of pussified Jeeps, SUVs, and trucks.
